10th Mountain and Fort Drum Notes

MEDDAC OUTLINES ORGANIZATION DAY CLOSURE/COVERAGE FOR AUGUST 3 All sections within the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity will be closed on Friday, August 3, for its annual Organization Day observance, with the following exceptions:-Conner Troop Medical Clinic (CTMC) Active Duty Sick Call will be available from 6:45 to 7:30 a.m.-Urgent Care at the Guthrie Family Medicine Clinic will open at 4 p.m. and remain open through 8 p.m.Jefferson County EMS coverage will be in place to support patients‘ emergency medical needs during the daytime closure. For medical emergencies, patients should call "911" or go to the nearest hospital emergency department for

treatment.  

The Fort Drum Community can enjoy the end of summer with Fort Drum Rides the River on August 30 in Clayton, NY. This will be the second year that Family and MWR has partnered with Lockheed Martin to host a fun-filled day on the St. Lawrence River. Tickets are on sale July 30 - August 29 at the Family and MWR window on the second floor of Clark Hall and at Parks and Recreation for $5 per adult ticket and $3 for children between the ages of 6-12. Children 5 years of age and younger can enjoy the day for free with no ticket necessary. Each ticket includes admission to the world-famous Antique Boat Museum where visitors can take a self-guided tour of the museum, grounds, and explore the 106-foot Rand McNally houseboat "La Duchesse". Children's activities will be available featuring crafts, family photos, and more. Ticket holders can take a narrated boat ride on the St. Lawrence River by Clayton Area Tours and learn about the grandeur of the Thousand Islands. A barbecue picnic lunch at the museum river shed is also included and visitors are invited to hitch a ride on the Family and MWR trolley to explore the village of Clayton and its many shops, galleries, museums and restaurants. Bus shuttle transportation to Fort Drum Rides The River will leave Magrath Sports Complex on August 30 at 9 and 10 am, noon, and 1 pm and return shuttles will leave Clayton at 1, 2, 3, and 4 pm. Family and MWR is not responsible for the transportation of expenses incurred by individuals who fail to ride the last bus back to Fort Drum leaving Clayton at 4 pm. This event is open to all Soldiers, Family Members, Civilians, and their guests. Call 772-5370 for additional information.

Opportunities

The Lowville Cream Cheese Festival is September 15 and we are looking for adult volunteers to oversee groups to help with set up, tear down, garbage pickup etc. We need volunteers the evening of the 14th or anytime during the day on the 15th. If interested call Michael Hanno315-348-2590

Military Family Life Consultants are civilians with no reporting obligations to commanders who are available free of charge to Soldiers and their Families.  The Military Family Life Consultants (MFLCs) are licensed professionals who listen to your issues and direct you to agencies who can help.  Sometimes all it takes is talking out the issue in order to find a resolution.
