Rehab Graduation On October 25, 2016 we here at Dulles did our first rehab graduation. What is
that you ask? We wanted a way to celebrate the work and accomplishments that
our patients had. So we scheduled a graduation in which patients received a
certificate and a t-shirt that has our logo and states graduate. These patients get
an invite to the rehab gym and get their recognition. We celebrate with cupcakes
and their families are invited to celebrate with them.
Our goal is to be able to have a rehab reunion once a quarter to invite those
graduates back to celebrate their continued success. This was really a way to
honor them. Please feel free to stop by and participate in one of our graduation
ceremonies. They are held every Tuesday at 1:30pm, in the rehab gym. Hope to
see you there!

Tips for National Sleep Comfort Month Invest in new items One of the major causes of not sleeping well is having uncomfortable pillows, sheets,
and comforters; the quality and condition of the mattress is especially important.
Get blackout curtains or an eye mask When you have too much light coming in your room and it's
disrupting your sleep, try blackout curtains. Another option is using a sleep mask if you're worried that blackout curtains will block out so much light you'll have a problem waking up on time in the morning.
Take a nap: Some feel guilty about taking a nap during the day, but for National Sleep Comfort Month, go
for it if you feel the urge. However, forgo the naps if you start having problems falling asleep at night.
Start a sleep journal Almost everyone has certain triggers that cause them not to sleep well at night. It
could be watching scary movies before bed, eating certain foods, or looking at a computer screen. Each day write down what you did in the few hours before bed, how you slept that night and how you felt the next morning and throughout the day. You'll learn the triggers to avoid that are causing you not to have a restful night's sleep.
Get earplugs Invest in a good pair of earplugs; they can be a lifesaver when you're trying to sleep through a
ton of noise.
Reduce allergens in your bedroom Pet dander, dust, mold, pollen and a variety of other things in your
bedroom can irritate your allergies, and in turn, make it difficult to have a good night's sleep
The changes are simple enough that they can be done fairly easily, but they can create big improvements in the long-term. National Sleep Comfort Month can be a changing point for you to make some adjustments and drastically improve your quality of sleep.

One of the most famous movies of all time, Casablanca premiered in New York City on November 26, 1942. The World War II drama boasted many Hollywood stars, including Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. It was
nominated for eight Academy awards and won three, including Best Picture. But Casablanca was more than an award-winning movie. In November of
1942, Allied forces staged “Operation Torch,” an invasion of Northern Africa that captured Casablanca, the very same setting as the film. Many consider
Casablanca a propaganda film, with Bogart’s character Rick symbolizing American freedom, liberty, and equality.

Did you know that 1 in 11 American has diabetes today?
Nov. 1 marks the beginning of American Diabetes Month®, the American Diabetes Association’s annual awareness campaign. This year’s theme, This Is DiabetesTM, will show what diabetes is really like, from the perspective of people who live with it each day.
Food Tips from the American Diabetes Association: Snacks
Planning meals is important for managing diabetes, but what about snacks?
When it comes to snacking, people often think of foods that are high in sugar or added fats but
you have lots of other options.
Snacks can help curb hunger while adding a nutritious energy boost to your day. But that means
choosing foods wisely.
It’s a great opportunity to fit in another serving of whole grains, fruits or vegetables! These foods
are healthier than salty snacks and sweets. They will also fill you up and give you the energy you
need.
Regardless of how many snacks your meal plan includes, portion sizes are the key to controlling
your blood glucose and avoiding weight gain. So, resist those trips to the vending machine – plan
ahead and pack a healthy snack!

November's Supermoon
By Elizabeth Howell, Space.com Contributor
November's supermoon — the name given to a full moon that occurs when the satellite is at its closest point to Earth during the lunar orbit — will be the biggest supermoon in about 70 years.
Algonquin Native American tribes as well as American colonists called the November full moon the Beaver Moon because "this was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs," according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
An alternative name for November's full moon is the Frost Moon, which was also coined by Native Americans, according to the Almanac.
November's supermoon will be the largest since 1948, and the full moon will not come this close to Earth again until Nov. 25, 2034, according to NASA. This month is the second in a series of three consecutive supermoons happening late in 2016, with the first taking place in October, and the last in December.
Full moons occur when the moon is on the side of the Earth opposite to the sun, and the three celestial bodies all line up. (Sometimes they perfectly line up, causing a lunar eclipse.) The moon's orbit around the Earth is not a perfect circle, so during each orbit, the moon reaches a minimum distance from the planet (this point is called perigee) and a maximum distance (apogee). When the moon is full, and is also at perigee, it's called a supermoon. The supermoon can look 14 percent larger than it does during apogee, and up to 30 percent brighter, NASA officials have said.
The Slooh Community Observatory is hosting a live broadcast of the November supermoon, starting Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. EST (1200 a.m. GMT Nov. 14). You can watch the live stream here on Space.com, courtesy of Slooh.
