Dear Friends,

“My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge, and the way that will lead you to God." These are the words that Mary, Our Lady of the Rosary, said to the three shepherd children at Fatima a hundred years ago, inviting (through these little children) the Church and the world to come to her. As parish, for the past few years, we have accepted her invitation, and we have consecrated ourselves to her. We continue to make this appeal to those who have not yet make this consecration or we seek to renew the consecration we once made. It is a faith-filled and pious way of placing ourselves under her special protection. We cannot devote ourselves to our heavenly mother, we cannot lover her enough, because Devotion to Mary is ultimately devotion to her Son. We do this through her because the love and the devotion she has for her son is perfect.

In anticipation of this consecration and the October 13th celebration, it is important to understand what is meant by consecration and why consecration to Mary is significant. Properly speaking, consecration means to make sacred, and we must understand that this is something only God can do. God shares his holiness with us and allows us to participate in his holiness through the gift of grace. For each Christian, this begins with baptism. One’s Christian life is the ongoing transformation into God’s likeness with the help of grace, which is communicated to us through the sacraments.

Why to Mary? By consecrating ourselves to her Heart, we are drawn into union with His Heart in a singular and certain way. Our consecration to Mary really has a singular effect – we are made Christ-like, it deepens and strengthens our commitment to Christ. As St. Louis Marie Grignon de Montfort assures us: “All our perfection,” St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort writes, “consists in being conformed, united and consecrated to Jesus Christ; and therefore, the most perfect of all devotions is, without any doubt, that which most perfectly conforms, unites and consecrates us to Jesus Christ. Now, Mary being the most conformed of all creatures to Jesus Christ, it follows that, of all devotions, that which most consecrates and conforms the soul to Our Lord is devotion to His holy Mother, and that the more a soul is consecrated to Mary, the more it is consecrated to Jesus” (Treatise on True Devotion, n. 120). We entrust and commend ourselves to her Immaculate Heart, for she leads us to the Sacred Heart of Jesus without fail.

There is a rising tide of public devotion to the Blessed Mother as we conclude the 100 year anniversary of the Fatima apparitions. Many dioceses around the US and the world are consecrating themselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

By the end of the year the following Dioceses and nations will have consecrated themselves, thus renewing an interest in the Fatima message and Marian devotion: Phoenix, AZ; Kansas City, MO; San Francisco, CA; Providence, RI; Santa Rosa, CA; all of Pennsylvania, Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; Portland, OR; Wichita, KS; Tulsa, OK: Oklahoma City, OK; Winona, MN; Washington DC, Jackson, MS; Tyler, TX; Denver, CO; Colorado Springs, CO; Birmingham, AL; Fargo, ND; Detroit, MI; Patterson, NJ; Manchester, NH; Hartford, CT; Worcester, MA; Steubenville, OH; Lansing, MI; Ogdensburg, NY; all of Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Lebanon, the Middle East, England & Wales, Netherlands, Poland, and others throughout the world!

As we approach the end of the 100 Year Anniversary of the Fatima Apparitions, let us appeal to the world around us to consecrate themselves to the Immaculate Heart. Sign up for the Consecration to Jesus through Mary! If you are not signed up for the consecration, sign up! If you are already signed up, invite someone else to join because time and time again God’s grace and salvific plan seem to transpire through a simple invitation.

Mary, Our Lady of Peace, pray for us, Fr. Brian

St. Juan Diego Society Gala

We invite you to come to the St Juan Diego Society Gala Banquet, on October 21st, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

The St Juan Diego Women’s Center has been here in San Jose for 31 years, working quietly behind the scenes to help young women in cri-sis pregnancies. We are a Catholic Pro-Life Agency, and we help these women with emotional counseling, support, diapers and clothing for their babies and education about chastity. We help women here in the San Jose area, and we have outreach ministries we support financially in Nigeria, South Sudan, and Baguio, Philippines.

We would be honored if you would join us to learn more about us, pray for our mission, and meet some of the women and children we have saved!
