LED will double from 2009-13Global LED revenue will expand by 10.9% in 2009 to reach $7.4 billion, up from $6.7 billion in 2008. By 2013, the global LED market will reach $14.3 billion, nearly double from 2009.Growth is being driven by the rising penetration of LEDs in existing lighting applications such as vehicles, traffic and street lighting, the backlighting of small liquid crystal displays and keypads in mobile handsets, personal navigation devices, digital picture frames and cameras. The market also is being aided by the emergence of new applications, such as backlighting of large LCDs in televisions, notebooks and computer monitors and personal illumination.Kilde: The Purchaser, 12/16/2009, Market research by isuppli.

Illumination based on solid-state semiconductors such as LEDs is expected to play a major role in lighting the future. Europe currently represents the largest market in the global lighting fixtures market and is projected to pass $23.5 billion by the year 2009, as stated by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

The Asia-Pacific region is poised to post the fastest compounded annual growth rate among the regional markets, at 6.5% over the ten-year analysis period. Non-portable fixtures such as vehicular and industrial fittings are expected to dominate shipments. The non-portable fixtures market was estimated at more than $61 billion in the year 2006.Industrial, non-building (airports, railways) and residential construction, replacement products, and industrial and commercial retrofitting are the key driving forces.Additionally, demand will be stimulated by high-priced, technologi-cally advanced and long-lasting energy saving products such as non-incandescent portable fixtures, high intensity discharge (HID) lighting, electronic ballasts, and portable fixtures using light emitting diodes (LEDs).Kilde: Global Industry Analysts Inc. 2009.

The Quality Lighting Lab will facilitate data output for use in a variety of light calculation- simulation- and verification software. The data can be processed for further modeling and demonstration purposes in the DOLL Virtual Lighting Lab or used directly in 3dsMax, Dialux, ZeMAX, SPEOS or other render engines.

DECISION SUPPORT FOR CITIES and CITIZENS promoting new technology

In Virtual Lighting Lab lamps and fixtures can be tested for efficacy, light scattering, reflection and glare. Companies, citizens, and politicians can be involved on a more serious level of the development phases and decision-making procedures

Page 22: Fremtidens udendørsbelysning. Flemming madsen

The Virtual Lighting Lab will facilitate photo realistic rendering and simulation presentations for decision makers and end users of a given lighting scenario. By use of Bidirectional Scatter Distribution Function measurements and spectral distribution measurements via Quality Lighting Lab, the Virtual Lighting Lab will be generating state of the art visualizations of projects, products and scenery yet to be created. A superb advantage and cost efficient process prior to starting up full scale projects.

Page 23: Fremtidens udendørsbelysning. Flemming madsen

3D modeling of cityscapes, office- and hospital environments with physics based elements implemented in the models, make the projects come alive in high resolution presentations.

SPEOS physics based engine gives valuable tools for evaluation of glare and illumination levels in urban environment.

Living Lighting Lab will focus on Smart City Management Systems, where lamp posts can be remotely monitored and controled. However Living Lab also covers both validation of interior healthcare lighting for hospitals and development of indoor lighting for elderly citizens.

DOLL Living LAB. The essence of Living Lighting Lab will be validation of lighting scenarios, test of smart hubs and lamp posts as communicative and communicating units that has an extended use besides its light emitting function.

Page 26: Fremtidens udendørsbelysning. Flemming madsen

The intelligent Lampposts is a network of streetlamps that is tied together in a wide-area network (WAN) that can be controlled and monitored from a central point, by the city or a third party. The ultimate intelligent system would be made of solid-state electronics and include citywide Wi-Fi, Smart City applications, which are all monitored via a WAN with a central collection point.

Intelligent Lighting Networks

Page 37: Fremtidens udendørsbelysning. Flemming madsen

• Information on road temperature that can form the basis for rational and efficient behavior in relation to snow removal, salting of roads, torrential rain, etc.

• Traffic information for private as well as public transport

• Traffic counts for cars, bikes, pedestrians• Controlling traffic light junction

• Video surveillance of traffic

• Closed-circuit television to monitor public spaces

• Air pollution notice• Digital information and orientation boards,

for example,  stations, city center, parks, city walks, building complexes, construction projects

• Monitoring and control of energy production from solar cells

Intelligent urban applications managed through the network can be varied where only limit is your imagination, examples of which are obvious could be:
