The three brothers are the successors of Andreas Vassilopoulos, a natural born innovator and an engineer by profession who started afresh after the World War II creating a new industry in the Cyprus market. Working with his own worldwide patented materials he thrived in his field and established the basis for the future development of his family business. Despite being an engineer, his vivid memories of his grandfather’s businesses were always troubling his engineering mind. His grandfather, G.P.L. Mavroidi (1846-1937), was a prominent Cypriot businessman with offices in Larnaca and Port Said, who was also the Honorary Consul for Cyprus of Holland and Belgium. His business organization was involved in general trading, petrol & oil trading, insurance, banking and shipping activities and included many renowned agencies such as Lever Brothers, Peugeot, General Motors, Dunlop, Columbia records, Vacuum Oil Company, Alliance Insurance, The New York Life Insurance and Shipping Lines that were calling in the East Med basin at the time.

Andreas Vassilopoulos directed his sons to revive the shipping business and they soon embarked on an academic footpath with emphasis in business, shipping and logistics. The three brothers then launched themselves into the Cyprus business arena via the creation of their first business venture using the trade name of G.A.P. Vassilopoulos. This venture, Freight Forwarding, was soon to expand to Shipping Agency by representing in Cyprus the United States Lines, the largest container line in its time. Rapid growth followed and year by year new services were introduced creating a total service organisation. The vision was to serve the commercial community by providing many related services under one roof that is a one stop shop.

The vision was successfully implemented, and in 2001 the organization was listed on the Cyprus Stock Exchange. The growth has continued and the Group today ranks amongst the top 25 organizations in Cyprus. Despite its prominent position and size, the Group being only a service provider has retained its neutrality, an attribute which comforts and attracts its commercial customers.

The growth in Cyprus, under the new global and local economic conditions, could not satisfy the expectations of the sophisticated and complex growth of the Group. In parallel to its Cyprus operations the Group has directed its efforts to grow in other countries. As a result the Group is now operating in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Luxemburg and Israel.
