For any blogger it is important to use an official email address @domainname for professionalism. How many ofyou have custom domain name, but using a public email address like @gmail @yahoomail.

You can get your custom domain email address for free from Googleapps. The process of getting your customdomain email address is simple. Here are few steps which you need to follow to get your personal domain emailaddress.

1. Go to Google Apps page, Select option as administrator and Enter your domain name.

Make sure you don’t add a www as a prefix or trailing slash (/) as prefix.

2. Click on Get started, and in the next page enter the details about your self.

3. On the next page create a user under your domain. My preference would be, you can create a user id withname admin and later on add different user name as contact@yourdomain

4. Next 2 options are verification method, I have selected the first option, because in this we can verify thedomain ownership by simply uploading a file.



5. On the next page, you will get the file name and text you need to copy into that file. After creating that file ,upload it into your server using any free FTP client.

Using this method, you can get an Email id under your domain name. A personalized domain name Email is veryessential for professionalism of any blog.

You can create very easily from cPanel. But here we are using Gmail application to be used for ourown domain. Means you can get [email protected] with the complete Gmail interface withall those features available in Gmail.

Harsh,Thank you for your post on GoogleApps. Everything was straight forward. The onlyissue I ran into was creating a test HTML in order to set up web hosting on my end. Iown the domain but didn’t fully understand where in the manager settings I needed togo to change the DNS. Every time I tried to log on through an FTP site, the registercompany would time out. Therefore, I just added the CNAME per google andeverything worked out. Again, thank you for your wisdom!

Thanks Harsh! I knew I had a few domains I got from Google (really registered with Enom) and I enjoyGmail @mydomain there, but I didn’t know I could do it with the domains I’m hosting elsewhere. Has anyone tried this??I don™t think that these steps are fully sufficient to have gmail on your domain.Itstrue that when you upload an html file like that you will get an email address like [email protected] you can access it at https://www.google.com/a/yourdomain and send emailsBut have you tried sending an incomming email to that address??? Google Cant hack into your domain tograb all incoming emails .[They can offcourse send]..You will have to change the MX Entry to let google do that..And if you want to access gmail atmail.yourdomainthey you will have to setup a CNAME record with the Name mail and value ghs.google.comI think this is the total way..Correct me if i am wrong!!By the way i think you have even done the CNAME part for this blog shoutmeloud.There is another alternative to adding the CNAME.. What the CNAME does is give google the power toaccess the subdomain.And what google does is that they will redirect this subdomain to your custom gmailurl.. Why let google do that?You can do that manually by using an htaccess redirect of redirectmail.yourdomain to https://www.google.com/a/yourdomain

Hostgator provides [email protected] with every shared account. That’s kinda really cool. Andmoreover there is no other host like Hostgator from my experience !.

I also use hostagtor and it is really a good host!!.. But i should say that every host(atleast most ofthem) will provide you with emails like email@yordomain and that email can be accessed via yourCpanel via a Squirrel mail interface(there are other alternatives also)..Here we are talking of giving the entire email handling to google apps.So that you can get a gmaillike interface for your personalised email.You can also login to google talk with this new email.If you are on hostgator,just ask the hostgator guys to setup google apps for you..Thery will changethe CNAME and MX’s for you.. Now you just need to signup via the link given in the post andverify yourself using the CNAME method instead of the html upload method..

Hi Harsh,

I registered my domain through a vendor (vooju.com) in Singapore but did not use their hosting serviceand they do not provide me with any email account too. There seem to be no way that I can change MXinformation when i log in to my domain. What should I do? Thanks.

Hey KMJust in case if you are planning to use any Hosting, you can ask them to do it for you.For example if you host with Hostgator, you can ask them in live chat support and they will do it foryou within no time. Hope this will help.
