Little Hearts Gala raises over $23,000 for ARH The third annual Little Hearts Gala on October 3 was a

huge success once again! Approximately $23,000 was raised for the pediatric unit, neo-natal intensive care unit, and medical imaging at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

The dinner and dance, held at the Bollywood Banquet Hall in Surrey, was attended by close to 500 guests who were treated to appetizers, Indian buffet, dessert and sweet table, photo booth, entertainment, dancing, and prizes.

Celebrity radio personality Harpreet Singh of Radio In-dia’s Let's Listen, Let's Talk made an appearance, then left MC duties in the very capable hands of Mandeep Patrola Rai who rocked the raffle prize draw part of the evening.

A touching testimonial to the importance of the pediatric unit was given by Esther King of Abbotsford. She and her husband Frank have nine children, many adopted, and their youngest was a frequent visitor to the unit.

Special thanks go out to Diamond Sponsor Johny Panya-vong Realty, and Platinum Sponsors PharmaCity, Little Dreamers Preschool, and Super Sonic Transportation and the many other sponsors and donors who gave so generous-ly to the event.

Dance music was provided by DJ Hark, DJ Kamoh and DJ Flash.

The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation is grateful for event organizer Jessica Bugra and her friends and family who plan this event for the hospital. We’d also like to thank all of the volunteers who helped with the evening.

CGH Pediatric Observation Unit is taking shape The Rotary Club of Chilliwack-Fraser Pediatric Observation Unit under con-struction at CGH is coming along.

Thanks to donor support from the community, the unit is moving for-ward with renovations, equipment and even murals and toys for the playroom/waiting room.

The Rotary Club of Chilliwack Fra-ser raised the initial $75,000, giving them naming rights for the unit.

Kiwanis Club of Sardis has pledged $11,650 for the playroom.

An anonymous donor covered the cost of one of the murals that will adorn the walls by Kimi’s Creations.

The Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary is getting on board as well, and Home Depot in Chilliwack is coming in to paint the new unit on November 3.

Other service clubs are stepping forward, with more announcements expected soon. Contact the Founda-tion to donate or give online at www.FVHCF.ca.

Chilliwack Mental Health raises $2,000! The sun shone on the Hotdog BBQ & Silent Auction held by the Chilliwack Mental Health staff on September 30.

The event raised over $2,000 for the Whatever It Takes (WIT) Fund in support of dental and health care costs of vulnerable clients. The goal of the WIT Fund is to be able to help clients acquire the care they need when no other resources are available.

The Silent Auction was a hit, with heavy bidding on gift baskets, restau-rant gift cards, wine, chocolate, gar-den sculptures and more. Thank you to all who supported the event.

First health forum leaves audience wanting more The Evening of Medical Enlightenment held October 8 at ARH was by all accounts a great evening that many would attend again.

The health forum was the idea of Dr. Peter Fry, vascular surgeon and Foundation board member.

The evening began with Dr. Curt Smecher, Chief of Anaesthesia, pre-senting on “Managing the challeng-ing airway in the operating room.” Dr. Smecher got some laughs as he demonstrated equipment on a simu-lation doll, and some gasps as he cas-ually mentioned the cost of a bron-choscope with video: $35,000.

Next up was Dr. Mark Lee, Inter-ventional Radiologist, who presented on “New developments in radiolo-gy.” Backing up Dr. Lee’s presenta-tion was seemingly the entire Medi-cal Imaging unit from ARH who gave more hand-on demos and who played show and tell with monitors,

scopes, and other medical devices. Free angiograms were a hit!

Finally, the audience was taken on a tour of the medical imaging unit and again, knowledgeable and caring staff spoke of the effect of minimally invasive procedures in reducing more serious surgical procedures.

Thanks go out to Dr. Fry for his insistence that people would attend; and Lorie Marchinkow, Radiology Supervisor for all of his hard work and the work of his team in being such a large part of the success of the even-ing. The caring of your team was evident; thank you for sharing your passion for your work.

Thanks also to re-freshment donors, Safe-way and Starbucks.

Everyone enjoyed seeing the inner workings of a hospital without the stress of being a patient! Look out for a n o t h e r health forum aimed at hospital staff in late Feb-ruary or March, 2016.

Film crew gives back to Mission hospital

A film crew once again used Mission Memorial Hospital as the setting for one of its movies on October 8.

“Little Pink House” is a Hallmark-style movie for TV. As with previous visits to film here, the production company

donated money to the Wellness Committee. However, this time, they also gave $1,500 to the Foundation to go towards the pur-chase of a blood pressure monitor for the Medical Department.

Thanks, Little Pink House!
