I chose to use this shot as I felt I could everything in and it is a good shot to use to help the viewer feel engaged in the following. Frame 1 is the title for my film

‘Hostage’ this title helps show what will what will happen in the film this is often the case in crime films such as The

Untouchables, shows that a group of criminals think they are untouchable. Hostage tells the audience that someone will be taken hostage and will make them want to watch it if that is within their interest.

Frame 2 was establishing shot that shows Tyrone being followed and the car in front of them. I chose to use this shot as I felt I could everything in and it is a good shot to use to help the viewer feel engaged in the following. It also allows us to see that there is a hooded thug who is playing the baddy. This is a generic feature of crime drama.

Frame 3 is a wide angle shot that brings Rich into the shot, this shot has been used to show Tyrone being followed, and it shows what he is being followed towards. This builds up suspense as we can still see the follower; there is often suspense in dramas to help keep the audience engaged.

Frame 4 is mid shot that has a conversation between rich and Tyrone, I did not choose this shot for any particular reason except it seemed like the most logical shot to use for the scene as it then allowed me to follow round to the side of the car with one movement.

Frame 5 shows the conversation, I chose this shot as it shows the conversation between two characters and Tyrone is now in place for him to be knocked unconscious. Which happens in frame 6 this close up shot shows the hit to Tyrone’s head close up to show the viewer what has happened. It

is often the case that in Dramas like Top Boy which was the model for my film that key moments or essential parts the story are highlighted or made clear to the viewer as they are the parts that make up the story line.

Frame 6 is a scene of the two kidnappers driving away I wanted this shot to have a real fell of action to it. As there many crime films that have action or high speed car scenes, an example of this would be The Sweeney.

Frame 7 shows the two criminals and their hostage, this shot allows the audience to see exactly what has happening currently with all three characters. It was important to have all 3 actors in the shot as it the conclusion to the story and it is important in dramas that all the key characters are involved at key moments. In Top Boy they kill their hostage by mistake and by the two standing there with their dead hostage it has a powerful impact.
