THE OBJECTIVE OF FPW IS TO:
Raise awareness of the importance of financial planning and
provoke a call to action to all stakeholders for the benefit
of all Canadians;

to discuss the necessity and progress of a financial
planning profession;
Encourage consumers to take positive ‘planning’ action;

help audiences understand how the world is rapidly
changing and what that means for our future.
Dr. Homer-Dixon is Chair of Global Systems at the
Balsillie School of International Affairs and Professor in
the Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo. He
received a BA from Carleton University and a PhD from
MIT, and he held the George Ignatieff Chair of Peace
and Conflict Studies at the Trudeau Centre for Peace
and Conflict Studies at the University of Toronto, before
assuming his current position.

STEVEN G. BLUM, J.D., EDM, LLM.Legal Studies and Business Ethics
STEVEN G. BLUM will speak on the theme “What does
society ask of a financial planner?”. He explores the
social context in which financial planners do their work.
What are their duties, obligations, and responsibilities?
Where does this work fit into the broader structure of
how our society guides and takes care of citizens?
A strong emphasis is placed on professionalism and
the role of the professional.
Steven Blum has been teaching at the Wharton School
of Business at the University of Pennsylvania for over
twenty years. He has consulted widely on creative
resolution of disputes and has led seminars on
negotiation for lawyers, accountants, executives and
other professionals. In addition to teaching and
consulting, Steven maintains a practice of law and is a
registered investment advisor. He has a strong research
interest in the area of ethics and fiduciary duty. His book
entitled Negotiating Your Investments was published
by Wiley in April 2014.

KENNETH COLE, LL.BLegal Expert & Professor
KENNETH COLE’S session will emphasize the
importance of trust and what that looks like in
day-to-day practice for CFP professionals. He will
illustrate what a trusted professional-client relationship
should look, feel and sound like in each and
every interaction.
Kenneth is an active proponent of settlement of family
law disputes, preferring to see matters resolved on a
cooperative basis through negotiation and mediation. He
prides himself on a responsive, empathetic, and sensitive
approach with his clients. Kenneth was a founding
partner of Epstein Cole in 1978 and has since been an
active partner in the firm. His practice focuses on all
aspects of family law and alternative dispute resolution.
Kenneth has regularly acted as a mediator and arbitrator
of family law issues. In addition to lecturing frequently in
front of a variety of audiences, he is currently an adjunct
professor at the University of Toronto as well as for
Osgoode Hall Law School of York University.
