In the Arkansas of my growing up, not only was smart good, but the prevailing philosophy wasalways to do the right thing, to show other people dignity, and to honor the common man. I'm sad tosay that those days are gone. In today's Arkansas, we can't recognize a lie when it's spoon-fed to us,and we don't want to help anyone who isn't as white-bread as we are.

These states, with their history of hatred and discrimination, have the audacity to say they aredisciples of Jesus and practice the principles of the Bible.

In looking for more images that tell a story we may find ourselves forced to dig deeper and ourwriting may get better, too. It may also make news and opinion writing more fulfilling andrepresentative. After all, what haven't we said already?

Why would she now call further attention to her lies and obfuscations of the truth nearly six yearsafter she abandoned her governorship? Because it pays for her to do so.

With the advent of the 24-hour news cycle and the failure of bland candidates like Al Gore, theAmerican people have spoken. They want an exciting, riveting, jaw-dropping and hope-inspiringPresident.

Behind recent diplomatic statements, I think there is a change in the nature of US-Egyptian relationsfollowing the post-2013 stagnation.

What's the peril to conservatives of blindly protecting O'Reilly? Simple: It completely undercuts theconservative cottage industry of media criticism. You can't simultaneously demand that BrianWilliams be fired and that Bill O'Reilly be left alone, not if you want anyone to pause for more thanthree seconds when considering your press critiques.

The reality is that Republicans really have no other choice than to stoop to character assassination, because if they are forced to run on actual ideas in 2016, they would not only lose the White Housebut Capitol Hill as well.

I'm done talking about this. And so is Bill. And so is the management of Fox News -- the highestrated channel in cable, bar none.

Are Bill O'Reilly's trousers really ablaze at the moment? Is he really just lying about his "combat"experience down there in the no-man's-land of Bue...

Manipulative tactics -- such as carefully editing both the call and response of a protestor and thecrowd -- cannot simply be attributed to 'bad judgment' or even 'bad journalism.' They are, at theirmost basic, deliberate efforts to knowingly foist a defective product on the public, without regard tothe harm it does.

Why is it that these artists' statements don't receive validity? Isn't John Legend an American? Aren'this feelings and political views valid?

news organizations, social media and internet services have editorial discretion -- protected by thefirst amendment--to deny ISIS access to their audiences. To the extent they do so, more power tothem. They are acting responsibly, in my opinion.

America has vilified Brian Williams for lying and NBC suspended him for six months. Bill O'Reillywas not in a war zone and wasn't in a combat situation. Can anyone explain how O'Reilly is better, ormore deserving of leniency than Brian Williams?

H. A. Goodman

Columnist, journalist, and author published in The Hill's Congress Blog, The Jerusalem Post,Salon.com, and other publications

As to the question if there is a difference in the Williams incident and the O'Reilly incident, theanswer is -- yes. And it can be summed up in one word: character.

So many war correspondents are similar to the many men and women in uniform, who work hard, dotheir jobs, and even perform acts of heroism, that you'll never hear about, and who never go aroundbragging, seeking recognition. Then, we have Bill O'Reilly.
