Offside Rule‘Offside is a law in football which states that if a player is in an offside position when the ball is touched or played by a teammate, he may not become actively involved in the play. A player is in an offside position if he is closer to the opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last defender (which is usually the last outfield player), but only if the player is on his opponent's half of the pitch. "Offside position" is a matter of fact, whereas committing an "offside offence" occurs when the a player is "actively involved" which is subject to the interpretation of the referee. Goals scored after committing an offside offence are nullified if caught by the referee’

Defence

A defender (left back/centre back/right back) has a large role to play in football, as they prevent attackers from scoring goals and it keeps the team in the game. The best centre-back rated by FIFA® at the moment is Nemanja Vidic, who captains Manchester United. His role is to command his defence to retain possession and to pressure the other team off of the ball to protect the goal-keeper so that they can’t score.

Midfield

A midfielder is a person who links the play from defence to attack, they are the people who usually have most of the ball and dictate play. They are several types of midfielders: defensive midfielders, that play just above the defence and playmakers, who have great skill in distributing the football around the pitch and create chances.

A great example of a playmaker is Xavi Hernandez, who FIFA® have rated as the best passer of the ball, in world.
