Fonts

• The films we looked at for inspiration regarding the fonts used for the titles in a opening titles sequence were Se7en, Shutter Island and The Silence of the Lambs. We wanted our font to resemble the mental states of the characters, i:e like it had been put through a lot of anguish in their life.

Jade Fedga

• We used this font for our titles because we thought it looked really good against the establishing shots that are in the sequence. We found this font by going through the pre-sets on Premiere.

Old PressWe used this font for the main title ‘Released’. It had a dirty looking quality and it looked like it would fit in our film as the main title’s font.

Music• For our film we looked at a number of existing film scores for many

different Thriller films e:g Se7en, Silence of the Lambs and Shutter Island. We narrowed down the ones we liked until we found some pieces that had a sound or tone that we felt we would well within the context of our film.

• Howard Shore’s work was something we looked at closely because he has scored a lot of Thriller films and he can convey a lot of character and themes from the scores that he writes.

• We were constrained by the music that we were allowed to use. Obviously we couldn’t use music that had a copyright on it and it would of taken to long to ask the composer’s permission.

• To avoid this we used a piece of copyright free music called ‘House of Leaves’ which we found on a website called Incomptech.

• We used the Spring section of this track when we showed the mental health institution because we felt it would provide some good juxtaposition. This kind of music is also played in these places usually anyway so we felt it would ground the film a bit more in reality.

Portrait of John Doe- Howard Shore

• This is a track from Se7en’s OST, it conveys a creepiness, unpleasantness and a sense of oppression. These were all qualities that we felt the music in our film needed.

Silence of the Lamb’s Opening Titles

• Again like with his other work, Howard Shore gets the themes of the film across from the very first track. This is something that we wanted to emulate in our film.
