Pre-writing (Draft)

1st paragraph:

Quick, informal drawing- pencil, color pencil, pen. Come from creative idea- imagination- created from drawing. Sense of volume, movement, feeling- not over worked. Won’t forget the idea- sketches speak for themselves. Describe the content inside.

2nd paragraph:

Selected frying pan- made of aluminium- black color. Touched solid- hard- won’t break easily. Smell metallic odor- rotten odor- can’t get off the smell. Nobody wants to taste frying pan- taste of steel. Sound “spang”- perfect combination musical instrument. Hygiene- clean- won’t fall sick easily. Remind mom cook great meal for me.

3rd paragraph:

No specific tools for drawing- draw in anything- proper lines and value in the sketchbook.

Drawing pencil “B”- soft lead – “H”- hard lead- different purpose. 2H for light marks- 2B dark marks drawing. 6B for shading part- so it will look great Eraser tools as balancing the part of the drawing. Don’t need a clear workspace- catch inspiration anytime.

4th paragraph:

Artistic technique- drawing look realistic. Drawing complex- try to emphasize mass- volume of a subject. Know the direction of the lightning. Perfect sketch – mind map – won’t do mistake Mistaken will change whole of the drawing.

5th paragraph:

Took two and half an hour complete draw. Always do the best to create perfect drawing. Took a lot of time for better drawing- practices make perfect.

Essay:

As a student of Foundation in Built and Environment, I had learnt about the definition of sketch drawing. When we were talking about art, a sketch usually refers to a quick, informal drawing, usually done from a life. Sketching can be done by using a pencil, color pencil or a pen. The beauty of an image that produced by an artist or a designer is coming out form the idea of creativity. From their imagination of drawing, they created a real life thing such as from drawing of a building to a real life building. The idea of sketch drawing produce are through a sense of volume, movement and feeling or sometimes a suggestion of light and shade. A sketch should not be labored or overworked. A sketch is important for me as an architecture student. Every time I found my inspiration, I must sketch it out so that I won’t lose or forget the new ideas. The other way, sketches always speak for themselves. That is mean every drawing work that had done always help me to describe what the content inside the drawing were.

I had selected the frying pan as my drawing sketch. The frying pan at my house is made of aluminium and it is black in color. When you touched it, it is hard and solid. Of course every frying pan is hard so that they won’t break simply while frying some food on it. The first time I bought the frying pan, I get a metallic odor out of the aluminium frying pan, but now it has a rotten odor. I had tried every way to get rid the smell of the rotten but there is no effect. I don’t know what the tasted of the frying pan is because I never tried to taste it. Nobody want to taste a frying pan right? Maybe the frying pan has a taste of steel. Beside, when you bang the frying pan it make a sound of “spang”. It can make a perfect combination of music instrument too. The frying pan is very important for me because I always use it to cook my daily meal. The preferred meal I like to cook is fried rice with fried egg on it. Subsequently I have use the frying pan, I will wash it clean. We need to have a decent of hygiene so that we will not simply fall sick. I have choose this frying pan as my drawing sketch because it remind me my mother that always cook a great meal for me. I miss it so much!

Last time I always asked myself, what are the best tools for sketching? How to choose a pencil to draw for myself? Now I had already find out, actual there are no specific tools for sketching. Nowadays, everyone draws no matter what, as long as it can fit the proper lines and value in the sketchbook. There are many kinds of drawing pencils. The pencils with “B” in the name are soft and the pencils of “H” are harder leads. These two kind of pencils help us determine what type of pencils that need for different purpose. In the drawing process the 2H pencils is use to make a light marks, a mark that may not want it to be permanently. After draw a light mark on my drawing, I use a 2B pencils to make a dark lines because 2B is great for outlining drawing. For the

shading part, I choose to use a 6B pencil to make dark, softer marks so that my shading part will look great. I using an eraser for balancing some part of my sketch. I know there are a lot of guys that always clear their workspace to begin their work but I do not mind to have a messy workspace because I will catch my inspiration anytime, anywhere.

I am using an artistic technique to draw my sketch so that my sketch looks realistic. My drawing complex style were just ordinary so people can understand of it. By using the purpose of contour drawing I try to emphasize the mass and volume of a subject rather than their details. So, getting know the direction of the lightning were important too. In order to make a perfect sketch, I make a mind map for myself so that I will not do some mistaken but if a mistake happens the whole drawing will have to be replaced.

I took about two and half an hour to complete my drawing. It took a lot of time because whenever I start my sketch I always do my best to create a perfect drawing. A perfect drawing must be a lot of effort. I felt very happy after complete this drawing because it was my own artwork and I am proud of myself. I will not stop doing sketch because practice makes perfect.
