Q:What is the attitude that everybody should have when choosing their career? In  whatever  profession,  be  it  architect,  be  it  engineer  or  be   it   any   other   profession,   you   must   have   passion   of  what  you  are  doing,  if  you  have  interest  of  it,  something  that  you  wanted  to  do  well,  then  only  you  can  come  out  with   a   good   result,   a   good   output.   Otherwise,   you  will  not  do  anything,  be   it   in  any  of  the  profession,  you  will  not  come  out  with  a  good  achievement.  Without  coming  out   with   any   good   achievement   you   will   not   be  recognized.  So,   I  will  say,  whatever  profession  that  you  choose,  you  must  stay  focus.  If  you  are  doing  something  that  you  are  interested  with,  you  will  excel  from  there.

Q: What does QS do?  

There   will   be   quantity  surveyor   in   the   QS   consultancy  firm,  like  what  we  are  doing,  is  a  consultant   QS.   So,   there  will   be  quantity   surveyor   in   the  construction   firm,   to   support  the   project,   mainly   to   lies   with  the   consultant   QS   for   the  project.   There   is   also   Quantity  Surveyor  in  developer  firm.  So                          involvement   will   be   from   very  basic,   fundamental   to   very   end  of   the   construction,   the   whole  process,    so  the  involvement    will   be   from   the   conceptual  design   page,   where   the   client  would   have,   for   example,     the  conceptual  design  for  what    they  are  going  to  do  on  the    piece  of  land  they  own.  So,    from  this  conceptual  drawing,

I I from   this   conceptual   drawing,   a  consultant   QS   building   to   come   up  with   the   feasibility   study,   to   see  whether   this   proposed  development,   proposed   product,  whether   it   is   variable   to   go   ahead  based   on   the   current   market   rate,  current   market   demand.   So,   after  this   process,   when   the   project   is  confirm  ahead,   then   the  consultant  QS,  will  need  to  come  up  with  the                          evaluation,  and  to  advise   the  client  on   the  whole   tendering  process  on  which  contractor  they  can  go  for.

Q: What is QS? A:  QS  is  only  a  short-­‐term,  the  full  name  is  actually  “Quantity  Surveyor”.  There  are  many  type  of  surveyor  in  town,  a  land  surveyor,  a  property  surveyor  and  also,      quantity  surveyor,  which  is  QS.  Quantity,  by  the  name  itself,  is  things  related  to  calculation,  related  to  workout.  Quantity  in  terms  of  volume,  in  terms  of  meter  square,  in  terms  of  value.  We  need  to  quantified  the  subject,  before                                                                                                                                                  we  could  come  out  with  the  value,                                                                                                                                                        which  is  quantity                                                                                                                                                                                  surveying.  This                                                                                                                                                      profession  actually  involved                                                                                                                                                    throughout  the  whole                                                                                                                                                                                              construction                                                                                                                                            process.

“  Q: What is your advise toward those who are entering this career? A:  you  must  have  interest   in   this  profession.  You  need  to  ask  back  yourself,  whether  you  want  to  choose  this  as  your  career,  because  after   graduating   from   university,   you   will   have   your   own  profession.   You   need   to   ask   back   yourself,   whether   you   have  interest   taking  up  this  career?   If  you  are   interested,  you  will  excel  from  there,  then  this  will  keep  you  long  there.  Otherwise,  if  you  do  against  your  will,  you  will  not  come  out  with  a  good  result.
