CHINESE Chen Shidao : Cold fly Shi Jing : Buzz Buzz the blue flies
Cold Fly - Chen Shidao (1053-1102)
Noted outside the window: a fly, the sun on his back, rubbing his legs together, relishing the morning brightness.
Sun and shadow about to shift - already he knows it, suddenly flies off, to hum by a different window.
Buzz Buzz the blue flies - Shi jing (Book of Odes), XI-VI B.C.
Buzz Buzz the blue flies lighting on the fence :
my joyous and gentle lord, don't listen to slanderous words!
Buzz Buzz the blue flies
lighting on the thorn : slandering men know no limits,
they destroy every state around!
Buzz Buzz the blue flies they light on the hazel :
no end to slanderer's doings - they set the two of us quarelling!

The fly - William Blake (1757-1827)
Little fly, Thy summer's play
My thoughtless hand Has brushed away.
Am not I
A fly like thee? Or art not thou A man like me?
For I dance,
And drink and sing, Till some blind hand
Shall brush my wings.
If thought is life And strength and breath,
And the want Of thought is death;
Then am I A happy fly
If I live Or if I die.

Auguries of innocence (part) - William Blake (1757-1827)
To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour. (...)
The bat that flits at close of eve Has left the brain that won't believe.
The owl that calls upon the night Speaks the unbeliever's fright. He who shall hurt the little wren Shall never be belov'd by men.
He who the ox to wrath has mov'd Shall never be by woman lov'd. The wanton boy that kills the fly Shall feel the spider's enmity.
(...) A truth that's told with bad intent Beats all the lies you can invent.
It is right it should be so; Man was made for joy & woe; And when this we rightly know Thro' the world we safely go. Joy & woe are woven fine,
A clothing for the soul divine; Under every grief & pine
Runs a joy with silken twine.
See, oh see! - Lewis Carroll (1832-1848)
See, oh, see! On every tree What lamps are shining, ting, ting, ting!
They are eyes of fiery flies To light our dining, ting, ting, ting!
Welcoming our Fairy King They swing, swing, swing.

The amber bead - Robert Herrick (1591-1674)
I saw a fly within a bead Of amber cleanly buried;
The urn was little, but the room More rich than Cleopatra's tomb.
The Fly - Ogden Nash (1902-1971)
God in his wisdom made the fly And then forgot to tell us why.
Epistle I - Alexander Pope (1688-1744)
(Of the Nature and State of Man with respect to the Universe)
(...) The bliss of man (could pride that blessing find)
Is not to act or think beyond mankind; No pow'rs of body, or of soul to share,
But what his nature and his state can bear. Why has not man a microscopic eye? For this plain reason, man is not a fly.
Say what the use, were finer optics giv'n, T' inspect a mite, not comprehend the heav'n?
(...)
I heard a fly buzz when I died - Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)
I heard a fly buzz when I died; The stillness round my form
Was like the stillness in the air Between the heaves of storm.

The eyes beside had wrung them dry,
And breaths were gathering sure For that last onset, when the king
Be witnessed in his power.
I willed my keepsakes, signed away What portion of me I
Could make assignable,--and then There interposed a fly,
With blue, uncertain, stumbling buzz,
Between the light and me; And then the windows failed, and then
I could not see to see.
On a fly drinking out of his cup - William Oldys (1687-1761)
Busy, curious, thirsty fly!
Drink with me and drink as I: Freely welcome to my cup,
Couldst thou sip and sip it up: Make the most of life you may, Life is short and wears away.
Both alike are mine and thine
Hastening quick to their decline: Thine's a summer, mine's no more,
Though repeated to threescore. Threescore summers, when they're gone,
Will appear as short as one!
The Spider and the Fly - Mary Howitt
Will you walk into my parlour?" said the Spider to the Fly, 'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to shew when you are there."
Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."

"I'm sure you must be weary, dear, with soaring up so high; Will you rest upon my little bed?" said the Spider to the Fly.
"There are pretty curtains drawn around; the sheets are fine and thin, And if you like to rest awhile, I'll snugly tuck you in!"
Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "for I've often heard it said, They never, never wake again, who sleep upon your bed!"
Said the cunning Spider to the Fly, " Dear friend what can I do,
To prove the warm affection I 've always felt for you? I have within my pantry, good store of all that's nice;
I'm sure you're very welcome -- will you please to take a slice?" "Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "kind Sir, that cannot be,
I've heard what's in your pantry, and I do not wish to see!"
"Sweet creature!" said the Spider, "you're witty and you're wise, How handsome are your gauzy wings, how brilliant are your eyes!
I've a little looking-glass upon my parlour shelf, If you'll step in one moment, dear, you shall behold yourself."
"I thank you, gentle sir," she said, "for what you 're pleased to say, And bidding you good morning now, I'll call another day."
The Spider turned him round about, and went into his den, For well he knew the silly Fly would soon come back again:
So he wove a subtle web, in a little corner sly, And set his table ready, to dine upon the Fly.
Then he came out to his door again, and merrily did sing, "Come hither, hither, pretty Fly, with the pearl and silver wing;
Your robes are green and purple -- there's a crest upon your head; Your eyes are like the diamond bright, but mine are dull as lead!"
Alas, alas! how very soon this silly little Fly,
Hearing his wily, flattering words, came slowly flitting by; With buzzing wings she hung aloft, then near and nearer drew, Thinking only of her brilliant eyes, and green and purple hue -- Thinking only of her crested head -- poor foolish thing! At last,
Up jumped the cunning Spider, and fiercely held her fast. He dragged her up his winding stair, into his dismal den, Within his little parlour -- but she ne'er came out again!
And now dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly flattering words, I pray you ne'er give heed: Unto an evil counsellor, close heart and ear and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale, of the Spider and the Fly.

raudas moscas divertidas, perseguidas

Du thym, du safran rougissant, Et du saule à la feuille molle;
Des odeurs qui vous sont propices Vous faites la cire et le miel;

Fut le Trompette et le Héros. Dans l'abord il se met au large ;
Le quadrupède écume, et son oeil étincelle ; Il rugit ; on se cache, on tremble à l'environ ;

Va partout l'annoncer, et rencontre en chemin L'embuscade d'une araignée ;

Quelque dieu d'humeur inste

Voyelles - Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891)
A noir, E blanc, I rouge, U vert, O bleu: voyelles, Je dirai quelque jour vos naissances latentes :

Uw vleuglenpaar, arm diertjen, schijnt verlamd; Mijn melkpot heeft voor u haar zoet verloren; Mijn suiker kan uw mond niet meer bekoren;
U voorgegaan in 't donker schimmenrijk!

O, gij dikke, weltevreden, welgezinde, snaartrompet,
