Hotel/Motel Waste Reduction Results will be available through
SWIX website by Fall/2000
National Industry Overview
51,000 properties with 3.9 million hotel rooms, averaging 64% occupancy, and representing $93.1 billion in sales
Employing 1.6 million people full and part-time, paying 20.2 billion in wages and supporting another 7.6 million jobs indirectly
Currently the third largest retail industry
Florida Overview
Florida Division of Hotels and Restaurants reports: 1013 hotels with 166,432 rooms and 6676 motels with 200,375 rooms

this sector

Waste composition model available Case Studies, brochures, and resource
information available through website www.ciwmb.ca.gov
Florida - FDEP
FDEP/EPA Region IV has sponsored the following:
1) 1991 Townsend/Earle Study 2) 1997-98 FDEP H/M Waste
