Flower villages are those towns andcities which outstand for their realaction, being long-lasting conscionsin terms of landscaping, urbanscenery and improvement of thequality of life of its inhabitants

There are currently 119distinguished municipalities inCatalonia as in Vila Florida inrecognition of their work on theimprovement of the urban space.

The aspects to be valued in each municipality are the plants and landscape heritage: therelationship between the green space and the number of inhabitants, the relationshipbetween the resources assigned to maintenance, the green areas and gardens, floral diversity and the functionality of the green places.

The project also takes into account the respect for theenvironment and sustainability through variables such as watermanagement, pest control programs and diseases, cleaning andwaste management, or quality of urban furniture.

On the other hand, the jury takes into account a third package of items related to the social use and the synergies with the tourism activity, such as the development of a promotional strategy linked to the green areas, the promotion of distinctive Villa Florida and the Organization of events related to the gardens and plants

A strategic city from the time of the Romans, Martorell hassucceeded in turning the problems into opportunities to have anice village with strolls and quiet neighborhoods. The old N-IIhas divided the town and has been transformed into anintegrated walkway, where green areas play a fundamentalrole. The house of Can Serra stands out decorating the greenspaces of the village with flowers and plants and offeringgardening as an activity carried out by disabled people.

For the second consecutive year, the Confederation of OrnamentalHorticulture of Catalonia (COHC) has characterized Martorell with threehonor flowers for the improvement of the urban green space. The CHOC hashighlighted more than 80,000 flowers which beautify the squares and streetsof Martorell.

Nowadays it has about 32 workers withintellectual disability and take part intherapeutic employment activities to favourthe acquisition and the maintenance of workhabits. In Can Serra plants and flowers grow .After that, they are planted on the publicroads and squares of Martorell. This fact hasbeen thanks to the Occupational Center ofCan Serra.

The main goal of this project is to save money by buying small flowery plants in specialized factories that distribute this type of little plants.
