Cementitious ProductsAdvances in the Construction Industry are ongoing. In recent years, many construction techniques have only become possible through corresponding developments in cementitious product design. Today’s use of products in building, construction and mining is significant and in some cases has reached the point where much of the product is an important structural component of the building infrastructure.
Bostik Australia is focused on offering an extensive range of cementitious products, designed specifically to address the advancements in practices throughout the civil and construction markets.
Floor LevellingBostik cementitious floor levelling products are examples of how formulated products offer specific qualities to the construction industry. The product range comprises of three self levelling floor compounds, engineered to suit varying floor coverings with specific set-times; a feathering compound for ultrafine smoothing; a patching compound for deep and localised repairs; a floor screed typically used in wet areas. Complementing these core products are the required primers and admixtures to ensure every project is a success.

Floor Levelling CharacteristicsBostik’s floor levelling products have been formulated with performance in mind. Flow properties, water demand, mechanical resistance, self-healing ability, and setting time are examples of the aspects addressed during formulation development.
There are several key characteristics that differentiate products within the floor levelling family.
Application thickness can influence the product selected. Each product has a minimum and maximum allowable thickness in which the product can be applied.
Setting time is often important in planning when a product can be accessed after initial application (final set – foot traffic), and when a floor covering can be applied (covering time).
Floor covering type can influence the flooring product selected. Critical finishes such as vinyl require the appropriate self leveller with the required degree of finish. Tile is more forgiving and often requires an alternate less critical product.
Underfloor heating is becoming more popular in today’s market and requires integration with the correct floor levelling product. It is vital a flooring product is selected with this element in mind.
Specification & Technical Support project success often lies in the correct specification and design of products. Bostik offers a complete technical services package via the technical and specifications services. Whether it be systems application, specification documentation or on site assistance, Bostik’s technical team will ensure the required support is available at every stage.
9
Always refer to the Product Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before using.
Surface Preparation
Ensure the concrete substrate is clean and free from oil, grease, sealers, curing compounds, paints, polymer coatings, dust or other foreign (bond breaking) matter.
Excess bitumen, adhesive or latience should be removed by light scabbling or mechanical captive shot blasting or grinding, followed by vacuuming to remove debris and dust.
Large cracks or holes may be filled using Bostik UL- Rapid Set in accordance with the Technical Data Sheet.
Priming
Most floor levelling products require priming prior to application:
Porous Substrate: Must be primed with Bostik UL-Primer.
Non Porous: Must be primed with Bostik PrimeGrip non-porous.
For concrete substrates that contain greater than 5.5% moisture content or are subject to greater than 70% relative humidity, rising damp or moisture, it is recommended that Bostik Moisture Seal is applied as vapour barrier. Refer to the Moisture SealTechnical Data Sheet. Floors treated with Bostik Moisture Seal should be treated as a non-porous surface and primed with Bostik PrimeGrip non-prorous.
Porous Floors
UL-Primer is supplied in a concentrate form and should be diluted: 2 parts water to 1 part UL-Primer.
Apply Bostik UL-Primer to the prepared substrate using a brush, broom or roller in accordance with the relevant Technical Data Sheet.
Allow primer to reach a tacky consistency. Approximate drying times for the tackiness is 40-60 minutes at 50% RH and 25°C.
Extremely porous substrates such as weather damaged slabs, aerated lightweight concrete etc, may require a second coat of primer to avoid pinholes or bubbles in the levelling compound. If a second coat is required:
Allow the first coat to dry prior to application of second coat.
Apply second coat of primer ensuring any ponded primer is brushed out to allow for even drying. Ensure tackiness is reached prior to application of floor levellers.
Non-Porous Floors
Apply Bostik PrimeGrip non-porous to the prepared substrate using a brush, broom or roller in accordance with the Technical Data Sheet.
Allow the primer to dry. Approximate drying time is 2-3 hours at 50% RH and 25°C.
Mixing
Bostik floor products have particular water ratios, depending on product (please refer to TDS or the below table). They are best mixed with forced action, high shear stirrer, powered by a heavy duty electric mixing drill at approx. 600 r.p.m.

Application Instructions

PVC PrimersAdd pre-measured water to a clean mixing bucket.
Gradually add Bostik floor product into the water whilst continuously mixing the contents of the bucket. When the entire contents of the bag have been added to the water, mix for a further 2-3 minutes to produce a smooth homogenous consistency.
CAUTION
DO NOT MIX BY HAND.
DO NOT ADD EXCESS WATER.
Discard any hardened or stiffened compound that has formed in the mixing bucket. Further addition of water will NOT reconstitute a useable mixture.
PLACING
Primed areas should receive the Bostik flooring product as soon as possible to avoid dust and surface contamination effecting adhesion of the Bostik floor product to the primer.
Pour the mixed material on the primed substrate.
Depending on desired thickness, either allow material to seek its own level or spread the material with a steel trowel, spreader or squeegee. Keep the trowel slightly inclined to obtain desired thickness.
Pour the next mix of material. To ensure uniform consistency and flow application, it is advised that subsequent mixes are ready to enable continuous pouring.
For very large areas Bostik floor levellers can also be applied using an automatic pump. (Consult Bostik for further information).
Curing
Protect the finished area against damage during curing. The addition of water after it has started to stiffen is not recommended. Any product that has not been placed whilst still fully fluid should be discarded.
Bostik Co-Operative Test Program
Bostik offer a service in which a program has been established to eliminate potential field problems by pre-testing Bostik products with samples of building materials to which the product will be applied. This service is available on large projects where pre-application testing will aid in determining the correct product. Consult a Bostik representative for further information.
Storage & Shelf Life
Bostik floor levellers have a shelf life of 12 months in unopened bags. Must be stored in a cool dry elevated place and protected from humidity.
Clean- Up
Bostik FLOOR LEVELLERS should be removed from tools and equipment with clean water immediately after use.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
