The Key Signature of a flat or flats belong to the Flat keys.

1. PLACEMENT OF THE FLATS IN THE STAFF:

a. flat- found in line B

b. flats- found in line B and space E.

c. flats- found in line B, space E and space A.

d.flats- found in line B, space E, space A and line D.

e. flats- found in line B, space E, space A, line D and line G

f. flats- found in line B, space E, space A, line D, line G and space C.

2. STEPS IN PLACING THE FLATS IN THE STAFF:

a. The first flat is placed in line B.

b. The singing name in line B is ti. From ti, count 4 singing steps ascending, as: ti do re mi. No. 2

flat is in space E.

c. From mi, count 4 singing steps ascending. Mi fa sol la.

No. 3 flat is in space A.

d. Count 4 singing steps ascending from la. La ti do re No. 4 flat is found in line D.

e. Follow the same step as in above. Re mi fa sol. The 5th flat is in line G.

f. Four steps from sol to do. No. 6 flat is in space C.

3. The Keys names of the FLAT KEYS:

The best way to remember the Flat Keys is to remember the sentence:

"Fat Boys Eat Anything During Games."

4. FURTHER STEPS IN PLACING THE FLATS IN THE STAFF:

a. Place the first flat on the B line. From there, count 4 steps up and 5 steps down to place the

succeeding flats.

b. Place the 2nd flat on the E space. From here, count 5 down to place the 3rd flat on the A

space.

c. From the 3rd flat on the A space, count 4 steps up and place the 4th flat on the D line.

d. From the 4th flat, count 5 steps down to place the 5th flat on G line.

e. From the 5th flat, count 4 steps to place the 6th flat on the C space.

f. From the 6th flat, count 5 steps down to place the last flat on the F space.

5. STEPS IN FINDING THE KEY NAMES OF THE FLAT KEYS.

1. Write the pitch names beginning from C.

2. From C, count 4 steps to c d e f. The first key is F.

3. From F, count 4 steps b.

The next key name is Bb.

4. Four steps from B to E, the next key is Eb.

5.From E to the key signature is Ab.

6. Four steps from A to D, Db is the key signatute.

7. Four steps from D, the next key name is Gb.

6. RULE IN PLACING THE DO IN THE FLAT KEYS:

A. Call the last flat (fa) and place the DO in the Staff.

B. DO is located on the line or space corresponding to the key names.

Example:

1.Key of F- Do is found on F space.

2. Key of Bb- Do is found in line B.

3. Key of Eb- Do is found in line E.

4. Key of Ab- Do is found in space A.

5. Key of Db- Do is found in space D below the staff.

6. Key of Gb- Do is found in line G.

C. The key signature affected by the presence of flats (b) carry this on their key names.
