Introduction: With the economic

and environmental climate of today it is more

important than ever to prevent leakage in

your carrier system. Flanges, the most

common trouble area, need to be sealed

properly to prevent this leakage and must also

be cathodically insulated to prevent stray

currents which cause undue corrosion and

eventual breakdown of the metal.

FLANGE INSULATING GASKET KITS

TYPE DType D gaskets are specificallydesigned to fit into the ring grooveof ring-type-joint flanges. They aremanufactured of a medium weave,fabric-reinforced phenolic materialand are sized to ANSI and APIspecifications - available in basicoval as well as octagonal shape.Also available are BX gaskets withpressure ratings to 15,000 PSI.

TYPE EType E is a full-faced gasket withthe same outside diameter as theflange and precision cut bolt holes.This design facilitates properalignment of the gasket duringinstallation and foreign material isprevented from shorting the flangeinsulation. Type E gaskets areavailable in plain face or Neopreneface phenolic, as well as a varietyof high temperature materials.

TYPE FType F gaskets are made to fit theraised face portion of the flangeonly. As there are no bolt holes inthe F gasket, the inside diameter ofthe bolt hole circle is slightlysmaller than the outside diameterof the gasket, assuring an exact,automatic positioning of the gasket.Available in the same materials asthe type E gasket.

TROJAN SEALING GASKETSTrojan gaskets are state-of-the-art

in near zero leakage static sealing.The elastomer sealing element is

encapsulated in the electrically insulated retainer. Our mostpopular sealing element materialsare Nitrile® (240oF max. operatingtemperature), Viton® (400oF), andTeflon® (450oF). The encapsulationof the sealing element permits onlymicro-exposure of the seal tohostile environs of fire, chemicalsand corrosive fluids.

Because the controlledconfinement of the elastomersealing ring within the availablevolume of the groove in theretainer, 92% to 94% filled volume,a consistent controlled-pressureseal can always be obtainedwithout tremendous bolt loads.Reduced loads allow for reducedflange thickness, smaller bolts andsmaller circles.

THE TROJAN

The cross section of APS’s TrojanSealing Gasket (A) shows theelastomer sealing element as itappears before compressionbetween flanges. Thiscompression causes the seal toeffectively fill the void of the grooveand encapsulate, (B) permittingonly micro exposure of the actualseal to hostile elements either fromwithin or without.

QUAD SEAL TROJANFour seals on the new Quad-SealTrojan further insures the integrityof the sealing capability of analready-proven reliable gasket. Forareas where absolute zero leakageis a must, the Quad-Seal Trojanworks twice as hard.

All too often, difficult sealingsituations arise from mismatched ormisaligned flanges. A quick, costeffective solution is the APS Trojan.Also, used in place of damaged ormissing RTJ gaskets, the Trojanforms a quick, static seal. TheTrojan is often the reasonablealternative to flange replacement.

Insulating sleeves manufacturedof high density polyethylene, NEMAgrade LE phenolic, and Mylar areavailable in a full range of sizes.Also available are one-pieceintegral sleeves and washers whichare made of Minlon, providingsuperior compression strength.Integral sleeves are available insizes through 1-1/2”. A variety ofhigh temperature sleeves are also

stock items.With each insulating washer a

1/8” thick S.A.E. electro-platedsteel washer is provided to protectthe insulating washer from damageby the nut. Advance flangeinsulation sets are available insingle or double washer kits.

FLANGE PROTECTORAdvance flange protectors and

corrosion inhibitor grease arerecommended on all insulated

flanges. By encapsulating theflange cavity with the flangeprotector and injecting ourcorrosion inhibitor grease, you canrely on your cathodic protectionsystem to provide you with years oftrouble free service.

This system totally eliminates anypossibility of foreign materiallodging between the faces of yourflange or corrosion bridging acrossand creating a short.

gasket kit is packaged individuallyin durable corrugated boxes.Insulating sleeves and washers arepackaged separately and arecushioned within the box to protectthem from damage duringshipment. Each set is clearlytagged with flange size, pressurerating, type of insulating sleeve andwhether it is a single washer ordouble washer set. Arecommended bolt tighteningsequence is provided with each kit.
