Dear riders, dear co-riders,

we’re happy to welcome so many of you in Dvůr Králové nad Labem at FIVA World Motorcycle Rally 2016. It is a honour for us to organize the event in the Czech Republic – the event that needs intensive work of many people and has been preceded by 2 years of preparation. During the event itself, 70 persons will do various jobs and are always ready to help you with everything. We tried to prepare as colourful programme as possible. Within 3 days you will visit interesting cultural, natural and historical places and ride about 450 km. You will see a part of the greatest rock city in Central Europe, visit an edge of Polabí lowlands and the highest Czech mountains. You will see a historical castle, a hospital from the beginning of the 18th century and a fortress more than 200 years old, as well as Czechoslovakian borderline fortifications from 1930s that has never been used.

We believe you will like the rally and we wish you to enjoy the event as much as possible, to gain unusual experiences and to avoid any problems.

Jan Täubel – president of the FKHV ČR – Czech ANFPavel Simek – chairman of the VCC Dvur Kralove n. Labem

Dvůr Králové is a center of the textile and machinery industries.

Dvůr Králové Zoo with its African safari theme lies near the town. Visitors may admire well over 2000 animals of 500 species of mostly African hoofstock which makes this zoo one of the largest in Europe. As one of the most successful breeders of many endangered species it is of note that within the last 30 years more than 200 giraffes were born there.

Outside the city, visitors can view an old residence of the Jesuits in Žireč and a hospital in Kuks, both with many Baroque statues by famous sculptor Matthias Braun.

VCC DVUR KRALOVE NAD LABEM

The city Dvůr Králové nad Labem has always been considered the Mecca of motorism since establishing the Czechoslovak Republic. This was thanks to the rapid development of textile industry in our city and thanks to the factory owners who tried to keep up with the times and acquired the most modern motorcycles and cars at that time. In our city we could see pre-war cars of world-known brands such as Bugatti, Tatra, Lancia, or Alfa Romeo, and motorcycles such as Indian, Brough Superior, Norton, Harley Davidson etc. The following generations were also brought up in a relation to motorism and its tradition in our city.

The origins of our club are dated back to 1973 when the crew O. Prokop – D. Erlebach took part in the race 1000 Czechoslovak miles with Tatra 57 sport. This successful participation put also other owners of historical

Page 7: FIVA - skoro final

7

cars in motion – and the result, 4th place in their category, could have been even better if they did not arrive at one of the controls actually before the time limit. More competitions of other owners of historical cars followed, and a question about establishing a new club appeared. At all competitions we participated we were registered under Veteran Car Club Dvůr Králové nad Labem but we did not oficially establish our own club. The situation was becoming more and more unsustainable, and so we oficially established Veteran Car Club at Auto-Moto-Club of Svazarm (Union for Cooperation with the Army) Dvůr Králové nad Labem, together with other supporters from nearby cities. This happened on January 18, 1978 in restaurant “Labe” in Dvůr Králové nad Labem. 27 people interested in the activity met at the establishing meeting, and Oldřich Prokop became a chairman of the club. To get more members we immediately planned our own competition of historical cars. As one of the best Czechoslovak racers, Antonín Vitvar, passed away in spring 1978, the competition was named after him. (Besides, he was born in Nová Paka, close to Dvůr Králové.) On September 1, 1978, 37 historical cars got together at

the start of “Antonín Vitvar’s Memorial”. The oldest car was Praga Alfa from 1913 driven by ing. Kubíček, doyen of the veteran movement. For A. Vitvar raced on both cars and motorcycles, the next competition organized was for motorcycles. After months of training 43 riders met in Dvůr Králové on June 2, 1979, to fight for points to become the Czechoslovak champion. In 1980 we organized the first Regularity Ride of racing historical motorcycles at the circuit “300 zatáček Gustava Havla” (300 curves of Gustav Havel) in Hořice. The event was again called Memorial of Antonín Vitvar Veteran T. T. It was once more a great success; therefore, we repeated the event in 1983 again in Hořice.

From 1981 we exhibited veterans in course of the great exhibition of small animals in Žireč at Dvůr Králové nad Labem. Those days it was a spectacular event to which buses brought visitors from the whole Czechoslovakia. Thanks to this, 6,000 people on average attended the exhibition at an outdoor swimming pool; they could see one of the greatest exhibitions of historical cars in Czechoslovakia. These exhibitions were organized each year up to 1991 –

this was the last year.

In 1988, an agile veteranist Luděk Erlebach moved back to Dvůr Králové. Olda Prokop, the current chairman, was delighted with it; organizing the races took him more and more time and after 10 years of chairmanship he handed the function to Erlebach. Those days we were organized under Svazarm (Union for Cooperation with the Army) as there was no other possibility in communist era. Later we worked as a section of Autoklub Dvůr Králové n. L. in Czech Army.

Because we were dreaming about our own decision about financial administration that was before strongly dependent on routine and rigid administration, we decided to become partially independent within the bounds of possibility. In 1991 we created an independent club – Veterán Car Club in Czech Army. Autoklub ČR was a tradition for us and a successor of the pre-war autoclub maintained by our fathers and grandfathers; the logo of Czech Army from the First Czechoslovak Republic especially delighted us.

In 1994 under the chairmanship of L. Erlebach

we organized an autumn competition, with today’s traditional title “Before we let the water out of radiators”. From the original club competition there was an open race for participants from other clubs in the region, later also for participants from the whole Czech area and also foreign countries. The rally is organized until today – many riders are interested; about 100 crews in 5 categories of historical cars participate.

Besides traditional events we accepted an invitation to co-organize an international race of historical race motorcycles, sidecars and automobiles at a renovated racing circuit in Dvůr Králové in 1997.

In the management of the club, other remarkable members also appeared. In 1999, Ivan Hlavatý became a chairman for 6 years. He was followed by Zdeněk Pištora who was elected in 2005. Under their direction the club further expanded and accepted new fans not only from our city but also from nearer and further surroundings.

The crucial years for our club were years 2007–2008

when we canceled the membership under AutoVeteran Car Club of the Czech Army. We did not agree with their management and their actions, and there was a disagreement between AVCC and FKHV CR (Federation of Historical Cars’ Clubs) in which we only took part as an organization without a legal capacity. To prove our disagreement with AVCC we established a new organization on an independent legal basis. The new organization was registered on April 28, 2008, and it became a successor of the original club. To strengthen our activities we applied for a membership in FKHV CR association – ANF FIVA.

In February 2009, one of the members of new generation, Pavel Šimek, got elected as a new chairman of the club. Under his leadership, the club further expands its activity, and with its 110 members it belongs to the biggest and most active in the region. In 2014, Pavel Šimek was suggested as a deputy of FKHV CR in the Motorcycle Commission FIVA instead of resigning Jan Loučka; last year he became one of the vicepresidents of FKHV, representing the Association of veteran car clubs in Hradec Králové region.

When in 2013 Jan Loučka mentioned the possibility of organizing the world motorcycle rally FIVA in the Czech Republic, our club did not hesitate to apply for organizing the competition. We considered the decision as the peak of our club activity that culminates this year, on June 22–26, with organizing FIVA WORLD MOTORCYCLE RALLY 2016 in Dvůr Králové nad Labem.

LOCATION - HRADEC KRALOVE REGION

Hradec Králové Region; is an administrative unit (Czech: kraj) of the Czech Republic, located in the north-eastern part of its historical region of Bohemia. It is named after its capital Hradec Králové. The region neighbours with Pardubice Region in the south, with Central Bohemian Region in south-west and with Liberec Region in the west. It also shares 208 km long international border with Polish Lower Silesian Voivodship in north and east. After the state administration reform took place (1 January 2000) the territory of the Region comprises five districts: Hradec Králové District, Jičín District, Náchod District, Rychnov nad Kněžnou District and Trutnov District. As for area, Trutnov District is the largest taking almost one fourth of the entire Region’s territory, followed by the Rychnov nad Kněžnou District with 21% and as for the three remaining districts each has about 18%. As of 2003, 15 municipalities with extended powers and 35 municipalities with a delegated municipal office were established in the region.

MERKUR Museum of the Construction Kit

When you say MERKUR, every Czech will remember the legendary construction set made from perforated metal plates. The first components began to appear as early as 1920. Jaroslav Vancl is the “father” of this famous construction set. He established the Inventor Company for the manufacture of this system in Police nad Metuji. The turning point came in 1925, when a new system for joining the components was created. The Inventor children’s game was renamed MERKUR and it has survived practically unchanged to this day. The Merkur Museum is dedicated to this history. It also boasts the largest building constructed from Merkur and registered in the Guinness Book of World Records – the “Steel City”, whose construction is inspired by the story in the novel of the same name by Jules Verne.

The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks belong to the largest coherent rock massifs in Europe. You can find here more than 90 meters high rock towers and pillars, deep gulches, waterfalls and also two lakes. The rocks have been protected as a national nature reserve since 1933, and since 1991 the whole adjacent region of Broumovsko has enjoyed the status of protected landscape area. The trails through the rock formations wind between bizarre forms that have been given even more bizarre (and often fitting) names – Mayor and Mayoress, Eagle’s Nest, the Tooth or Devil’s Bridge. Take a break from walking at the Great Waterfall – to see the water you have to recite a secret spell. The whole rocks´area is a popular destination for rock climbers. The area is also one of the largest permanent breeding sites of peregrine falcon in Europe, as they are protected here under federal law. Some areas have been designated off limits to climbers and hikers to make sure the birds aren’t disturbed.

THE GIANT MOUNTAINS

The Krkonoše is a mountain range packed with superlatives. The range is the highest and the most visited, and is the only one in the Czech Republic to reach such lofty heights. Glacial corries contrast with bare-stone ridges, large alpine meadows with timber cottages down in the valleys, the murmur of waterfalls with the mysterious silence of peat bogs, while regal Mount Sněžka, queen of the peaks, lords it over her lofty realm. All this awaits you in the Krkonoše. The mountains were declared a national park in 1963 and a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 1992. The Krkonose Mountains are not only attractive due to their unique nature. Their picturesque character is accompanied by a peculiar rural architecture found even in the smallest villages in the submontane areas and scattered houses on the ridges. The Krkonoše Mountains are a paradise of waterfalls, some of which tumble from impressive heights. The highest mountain range in the Czech Republic is closely associated with the figure of Krakonoš.

NOVé MěSTO NAD METUjí CASTLE

Historical recourses say that the foundation stone of the town and the castle was laid on the 10th of August 1501 at 2 p.m. by Jan Černčický of Kácov, the owner of the estate. In the 17th century the whole chateau and the estate came into possession of Walter of Leslie, a Scottish constable, who was promoted to the position of field marshal and imperial Count. Under the reign of the House of Leslie, the Chateau received its most extensive renovations. In 1908, the devastated Baroque Chateau and its accompanying estate was purchased by the textile industrialist brothers Josef (the great-grandfather of the current owner) and Cyril Bartoň (great uncle) and picked out as a future family residence. Excellent architects of that time, Dušan Jurkovič and Pavel Janák, rebuilt it into a modern residence equipped with technical amenities, such as a water main, central heating, electric power, telephone, and dining and personal lifts. Since 1992, the castle is the property of the Bartoň-Dobenín family once again and is open to the public for tours and events.

INFANTRy CASEMATE N-S 82 BřEzINKA

N-S 82 “Březinka” infantry casemate was concreted from October 4 to 9, 1937 and its cost was evaluated at about 5 million crowns, which would now correspond to one and half million Euros. The work consists of 1 365 cubic meters of high quality reinforced concrete. The non-exposed walls are one meter thick while the roofing slab is two meter thick and the front wall is 2.25 meter thick. The bunker was equipped with one anti-tank cannon, six heavy machine guns and five light machine guns. The crew was composed of 32 men. During the World War II the object was heavily damaged, embrasures and cupolas were extracted. From 1989, the casemate has been step-by-step reconstructed into the original pre-war condition by the effort of members of the Military History Club Náchod. During fifteen years, uncared object filled with waste turned into one of the best museums of its kind.

jIRAKOVA CHATA

In 1895 the Czech Tourist Club affiliate in Náchod had built a chalet with a lookout tower, the first “tourist shelter” in the country. Already in 1910, it was being negotiated with Dušan Jurkovič, an architect and finally it had been decided: “to build a gracefully articulated, covered with shingles, on a stone base exploded, practically furnished tower whose lane-like hexagonal tower with a wide wooden gallery will decorate the top of the memorable Dobrošov”. Immediately after the war a Czech writer Alois Jirásek was asked about the connection of a chalet with his name. In 1919 there was a collection to raise funds declared. The archival material says that the construction of a new chalet with a lookout tower contributed “… 384 individuals and organizations from all over Bohemia. The collection earned 213,149.80 CZK, 11,000 bricks and 31 cubic metres of sand…” A foundation stone was laid on July 9, 1921, on the occasion of the writer´s seventieth birthday.

HOSpITAL IN KUKS

Kuks is one of the most beautiful Baroque complexes in the Czech Republic. Count Špork decided to establish a spa sanatorium at the end of the 17th century after a healing spring was found here. The rich cultural life of the spa in the form of sumptuous balls, plays and hunts became legendary. Even though this fame has passed with time, you will to this very day be overwhelmed by the magnificence and beauty of the Baroque in its purest of forms. The most important part of Kuks is without a doubt its monumental hospital with the stone Church of the Most Holy Trinity and its mysterious crypt. Inside, you can see an exhibition devoted to the life of its founder and also to medicine in general. The Czech Pharmaceutical Museum is based here to this very day. Under no circumstances must you fail to visit the local Baroque pharmacy, which is the second oldest in Europe. In front of the hospital, your attention will be drawn to the monumental statues of the twelve human Virtues and Vices. Their author is none other than the ingenious sculptor Matyáš Bernard Braun.

jOSEFOV FORTRESS

Fort Josefov was built according to Duhamel de Querlonde´s design, the French engineer in Habsburg service, who jointed both his teachers fortification experience and the given terrain advantage. The fort’s core was situated on the hillock above the Elbe and Metuje rivers confluence. Their barbican was shielded by the so called crown wall. It was possible to dam up the river streams and to flood the adjacent fort’s neighborhood. There were four gates to enter the fort. The name Josefov (Josefstadt) reminds us of the Emperor Joseph II, the founder of the fortified town. Josefov fort underground is a unique technical monuments also thanks to the air-conditioning chimneys and drains. It was the largest one in Europe in the 18th century. There were about 45 km of all the corridors and mine branches. Other kilometers belong to the unique water drain system, still functioning. Underground casemates are hidden inside the wall ramparts. It is where the soldiers lived during the war, and where the storage or gun-ports were situated. Since 2007 regularly organized Brutal Assault festival.
