PROJECT STATEMENT
Client: Fireworks Gallery
Background: Fireworks Gallery began in 1985 in Pioneer Square, Seattle featuring the work of local artists. It has since grown to have several galleries in the area that features work from over 300 artists and studios. Their motto is “Celebrating art in life.”
Objective: Redesign the website to match the creative atmosphere of the physical gallery as well as simplify the online shopping process by reorganizing the products and cleaning up the design.
Target Audience: Late 20’s and up as well as actively social individuals.
Obstacles: The large product line could make organization and simple navigation tricky. It will also need to be tailored to a large audience.
Tone: Trendy, quirky, and creative.
Media: Web, option of mobile responsive design.

The home page for Fuego is clean and organized with a background texture that matches the branding of the store. The colors are warm and inviting without being disracting.
The home page for Archie McPhee has a strict grid layout that is very clean. The rounded corners help reduce tension and allow movement through the grid. The front image is a gallery that allows for four different messages as well as their top categories underneath without it getting overly cluttered or messy.
The top navigation has dropdowns but only on some of the categories, which is confusing. The account navigation is too close to the edge of the window.
However, the top navigation bar is messy and detracts from the overall look. The tabs are a lost opportunity as they are simply navigational buttons and not actually tabs in the sense that they connect to the page.

The shopping cart page for Fuego is easier to read than Archie McPhee’s because there is less content on the page. At the top of the page the check-out progress is stated, and there is an option to calculate what the tax fees are going to be. The option to check out as a guest or to sign in is offered from the start whereas the Fireworks website has a separate page for signing in.
The shopping cart page for Archie McPhee is cluttered and does not have very good hierarchy. Their message about the free gifts is ill-placed and highly distracting in a negative way. The design is consistent with the website’s style, very gridlike, but the hierarchy is failed because all parts are around the same size with even spacing, which makes it hard to distinguish one section from another.
