Water supply to fixed and automatic firefighting systems such as automaticsprinkler systems in conformity with UNIEN 12845 rules or with hydrant systems inconformity with UNI EN 10779 rules.

In accordance with the different planningneeds, the fire fighting systems can becomposed of pumps connected to electricmotors or to diesel motors. The jockeypump works only to keep the constantpressure in the system in case of smallwater leaks. The delivery and the head ofthe jockey pump can not be considered in thetotal calculation of the systems supply.Each main pump is controlled by an electricpanel and the pump is automatically startedby its pressure switch. The main pumpkeeps on working till the manual stop (UNIEN 12845 10.7.5.2).The main pump stops automatically whenthe pressure is restored.The fire fighting systems are built accordingto:- UNI EN 12845 – fixed fire fightingsystems - automatic sprinkler systems;- UNI 10779 – fire fighting equipment-hydrant systems;- UNI EN 9906 Encl. A - Hydraulicperformance acceptance tests;- 2006/42/CE Machinery Directive;- 2006/95/CE Low Voltage Directive.

Pump sets shall be housed in a closedand protected compartment (UNI EN12845-10.3) which shall be sprinklerprotected (UNI EN 12845-10.3.2) andadequately protected against freezingand secured against tampering (UNI EN12845-8.4).Ambient temperature for electric pumpsfrom 4°C to 40°C, max elevation 1.000m ASL, max humidity 50% at +40°C.Temperature of pumped water max40°C for external pumps and max 25°Cfor submersible pumps.The water shall be free from fibrous orother matter in suspension liable tocause accumulation in the pipingsystem (UNI EN 12845 - 8.1.2).Water pressure shall not exceed 12 bar(except in high systems) (UNI EN12845-8.2.1)
