Title: Baby Dumping

Background: An interactive information design to educate and carry out awareness of increase in current issue of baby dumping among youth generation. In Malaysia, 60 dumping babies have been recorded so far this year. When horrible like these things happen, nobody likes to look in the mirror. Who suppose to blame? A woman? Parent? Teenager? Or society?

Target users: -People in Malaysia (especially Muslim)

Problem Identification: Nowadays, These cases (baby dumping) happen almost every day. According to my research at Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, baby dumping cases had already achieved to thousands per a year and suddenly become a big issue in Malaysia. There a lot of stories about babies have been dumped into varies places such as in the toilet, dustbin, river and even on the street. Most of this baby is found dead and some others are still alive.

Aim and objective: 1. To educate young adults to avoid dumping babies and unwanted pregnancy2. Create a feeling of sympathy towards the innocent babies. 3. Explain to young adults of the result and effect of baby-dumping to individual, society and country.4. Experiment on different ways of communicating and interacting.5. Campaign and get a full support from youth generation to reduce and solve this issue.

Motivation: Lately, one of these issues always rises up on paper also on media. Because it kind of a big issue in Malaysia. So I’ve been thinking and decide to bring this issue for my project. I would be proud if I can make some changes especially to my country if I can reduce percentage about this issue. Maybe by deliver the information thru digital media and technology. People can open their eyes and heart. This will make feel sympathy or awareness (for those are involved) to this issue. Who knows?

Online Research: The baby dumping refers to discarding or leaving alone, for an extended period of time, a child

younger than 12 months of age in a public or private setting with the intent to dispose of the child. It is a crime happens when close proximity committed between a guy and a woman and resulted in unwanted baby.

How it could be happen?Sexual Abuse:-Dumped their babies often because they felt betray and used by their child father. Disposed off after or before birth

Lack of Sex Knowledge:-Poor knowledge on reproductive health like menstrual cycle / healthcare during pregnancy. Usage of contraceptive.

Poor Parental Modeling:-Don’t give full attention. Too busy with their jobs. Conflict in the family.

Pornography:-Easy access and influent to porno eg: internet, cyber dating, 3D games, pirates CDs

How it gonna work??!! My idea is by create an interactive information design.

What is Information Design??!! Information design is the skill and practice of preparing information so people can use it with efficiency and effectiveness. Where the data is complex or unstructured, a visual representation can express its meaning more clearly to the viewer.

Why Information Design? Easier for audience to understand and it's important for the instructions to be carried out for user must understand, trust, and be motivated by info. In other words, the information conveyed. So my part as designers must get the message across in ways that reach the audience.

Idea & Concept

For my final year project, I tend to create a simple

interactive website(information design). This is for educate youth generation about how this issue happen and what is a bad impact of baby dumping. So my idea to keep user attract and maintain to explore the whole website. Maybe I can change all the information in word to graphic, so easy to understand. Other option maybe by using a “catchy word” or “typography” so user can remember. This is I need to be concern that all my information not based only on word. To create this information design, Suitable software will be used for this project such as Flash (animation & Interactive). Also Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator (images).

Animation:What kind of animation should I use for my project?

Because my final year project is information design. So I’ve decide by create an animation and put it on my site, It would be help. That can attract and lock the user to keep explore. But I need to concern not put too much animation. Because sometime it probably make user feel disturbing and annoying

Sound:Why sound need to use for my project?

Since my project more toward of current issue. I’ve thinking this element sounds could help user to their feeling about this issue also who know it will help for user to reduce this issue happen and give the full support for any campaign of baby dumping. I also concern to put button sound control or “On””Off” if the sound annoying to user explore.
