Michael Honarvar (267) 683-0550 │ [email protected] Optomechanical packaging engineer with Ph.D. and experience creating several breakthrough technologies for biomedical devices while minimizing development costs SUMMARY OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SKILLS Product Visions: Developed and characterized cutting-edge materials for many biomedical products, including optical sensors, surgical and biopsy needles, catheters, and pulmonary disease detectors. Also designed optical sensors for health monitoring, failure analysis, corrosion detection, and air quality control. Product Testing & Manufacturing: Characterized many materials, including shape memory alloys (nitinol) and composite materials. Extensively conducted mechanical & thermomechanical tests (uniaxial tensile, torsion, hardness, bending, and flexure), microstructural analysis (microscopy, SEM, XRD, and DSC), QC, and failure analysis. Project Management: Led other researchers in development projects for biomedical products, coordinated with several universities, and always finished within schedule and budget. Developed materials and tests that eliminated purchasing costs. Managed projects in 2,000+-person company with several factories. Selected materials, vendors, and supply chain partners. Customer Relations: Designed several minimally invasive surgical devices that reduced incision sizes, improved accuracy, decreased procedure times, and reduced needs for more surgeries. Developed catheters that eliminated needs for risky RF cardiac ablations. Worked with customers to determine requirements and outline project scopes. Communication: Regularly liaised with upper management, staff in several departments, customers, and university researchers, consultants, and collaborators in SBIR and STTR projects. Taught university courses in statics and material science & engineering. Consistently provided clear and comprehensive documentation. Presented in two international SMASIS conferences, and published six academic articles on material science and mechanical engineering. Also developed sensors for detection of SCC (stress cracking corrosion) on aircraft and submarine structures. As an optomechanical engineer, ensured correct assembly and maximum performance of optical systems. Led the active needle project in several phases, including actuator characterization, needle fabrication & assembly, phantom material mimicking, and needle trajectory evaluation. Enabled needle to reduce insertion times and tissue damage by improving insertion accuracy despite density of blood vessels and sensitive organs in the area. Coordinated with Stanford and Texas A&M labs. Led the design of MRI-compatible chemoablation catheter that passes through arteries to reach specific targets in the heart—eliminated the need for patients to undergo risky RF ablation. Enabled catheter to work with magnetic and mechanical actuation and be visible under MRIs.
