Film Openings Analysis’s
Name of Film: Panic Room
Genre: Adventure/Horror
What do you learn from Characters/Plot? Interested? It’s set in a very busy town, from the likelihood of America, to New York, because of the close-up buildings. Somehow, the characters are mainly to be criminals.
What Text appears on-screen?The actors that are being starred on the film, music producers, costume designers, film editors, production designers, photography directors, producers, director, and writer.
Sound?A very deep-tensed, horror soundtrack, foreshadowing the genre of the film, which in this case, is some kind of horror, bloody film. Sound stays in the same tone, increasing and decreasing casually, but with the same horrific beats.
Camera Work?Clear shots of the buildings in the certain set city, panning from side to side of the buildings with the texts tilted to the camera’s current rotated recording area.
Mise-En-Scene?It is set in a very busy city, from the likelihoods of America, New York, mainly because of the gigantic amounts of buildings set in this opening sequence, which allows a foreshadowing to form of a ‘no way out’ situation.
Editing?Tilted text against the buildings.
Overall effectiveness? Strengths/Weaknesses?Foreshadowing of the tight buildings close together, with a ‘no way out’ situation, which is where all the main effect is given, allowing people to want to go and see it.
Name of Film: Aliens
Genre: Science-Fiction / Action
What do you learn from Characters/Plot? Interested?Somewhere in outer space that it is set in, in a spaceship, not too far away from earth. Yes, I’d be interested to watch it, as it looks interesting, as not many films are made from out of the earth.
What text appears on-screen?Film title, Executive producers, Music composers, Alien effects creator, Visual Effects creators, Supervisors, Editors, production designers, Photography director, Story creator, Screenplay, Producer, and Director.
SoundVery low-pitched, a very scary soundtrack, sounding like a growl of a weird unknown monster, hence the creation of the title ‘Alien’. Tense grows while the opening the scene is running.
Camera WorkJust moving camera downwards while in space, to the way of where the spaceship is, and when opening scene finishes, it zooms into the spaceship.
Mise-En-SceneSet at Space, in a Spaceship.
EditingEverything in space is added on.
