PAWLING – The surprise champion of Section One. The Tigers took the Class C title as a No. 4 seed last season, including a championship win over No. 2 North Salem. It will be interesting to see how Pawling bounces back this season, as they are one of the few teams to lose both of their leading scorers from a year ago in Amber Cody and Isabello Grillo.

ARLINGTON – You could make a strong case to bump Arlington up to No. 2 given the league and section the Admirals play in. After all, it took a 4-3 win by powerhouse Scarsdale in the sectional semifinals to eliminate the Admirals. For now, we’ll keep them here. Gone are two great seniors in Nichole Tolli and Jordany Ballantyne, but back is Emily Kaminsky to anchor the team.

PINE PLAINS – Another terrific year last fall for the Bombers culminating in a Section Nine, Class C title for coach Deb Beam. Pine Plains’ run ended with a loss to Whitney Point in the state quarterfinals, and the squad had some heavy losses, including leading scorer Monica Smith. But Pine Plains always has talent.

KINGSTON – No brainer. The Tigers went 16-1-1 last year, the only loss coming in the New York State semifinals – their third appearance in the state Final Four since 1999. Kingston will miss Carly Canavan and Jordyn Beesmer, but coach Deb Eaton has built a local powerhouse up there.
