February has three more Sundays in the Epipha-

ny Season! Think light vs dark, following vs wan-

dering, forgiving vs holding grudges, and prepa-

raon for Lent.

Being in Year A of the leconary, the Gospel

readings are from the book of Mahew as we

Follow the Light, Walk in the Light, explore the

Gi of Reconciliaon and “witness” the Transfig-

uraon of our Lord.

What a sight that the Transfiguraon had to

have been! I have always thought of it as

“clorox” Sunday, as Jesus appeared on a high

mountain to Peter James and John. Jesus’ face

shone like the sun, and His clothes became

white as light! AND wait, there’s MORE! Moses

and Elija also were there !

To learn about Jesus’ message to them and us

on the mountain, Pastor’s message will be

“Come to Jesus” as we prepare to enter into the

penitenal season of Lent.

The 26th of February is Ash Wednesday. Ser-

vices that date will be at 4 and 6:30 p.m., with a

light meal at 5:00. There will be the imposion

of ashes as well as communion at both services.

The ashes this year have been rendered from

our palm branches from Palm Sunday last year.

(think about that) The altar paraments will be

violet and there will be no altar flowers for this

season as we begin this somber and meditave

season of the church year.

Regular Wednesday services

during the 40 days of Lent will

be at 6:30, with light meal

served at 5 p.m. For your

future reference, Maundy

Thursday and Good Friday will

have 2 services at 4 and 6:30.

We give thanks to God that the organ is fixed! As

your instrumentalist, please accept my congrats

that you all were paent, great sports, and sang

well with your hearts through the weeks with the

piano only. Worship is worship, even when circum-

stances change. Thanks be to God!

If you are interested in just a short term commit-

ment to sing in the choir, this season is YOUR op-

portunity!. Contact Judy Kutach so music can be

available for you. [email protected]

Reminders: Wear your nametag, smile, and meet

someone new every Sunday!

The Lord gives strength to the weary and increases

the power of the weak. Even youths grow red and

weary, and young men stumble and fall; Those

who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run

and not grow weary, they will walk and not be

faint.

LSLC Board Workshop On Saturday, January 25, Living Savior hosted a Board workshop. There were 26 aendees

at the Workshop. Aendees included Board leaders and members, Church Council Officers

and Church Staff . The purpose and objecve for the Workshop was shared, followed by a

discussion regarding "Missional Ministry" led by Pastor Bailes. Aer LSLC's Vision Path Sur-

vey, Vision and Mission statements were reviewed in joint session, Boards went into indi-

vidual Breakout Sessions. Discussions were led by Board leaders aided by a worksheet-type

discussion guide.

The Workshop facilitated brainstorming sessions, general discussions and encouraged im-

proved communicaons, sharing and planning.

Here are some of Jack Heintschel’s comments regarding the day :

We must make sure we focus on our mission....Our acvies should bring people to Christ, prepare people to bring people to Christ and/or encourage one another to bring people to Christ. Basically, we are to be about making disciples (Jesus followers) of all naons. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all naons, bapzing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Mahew 28:18-20 ... If we plan and strive to make every acvity and effort first-class, we will soon develop a reputaon that will make those involved, glad they were involved and those who weren't, want to be involved next me. This facilitates interest, encourages growth and (above all else) makes us more effecve at making disci-ples.

S S Secret Sisters is an encouraging ministry for women in our church fellowship.

All ladies of our church are invited to parcipate. If you parcipate you will draw a name and that woman becomes your Secret Sister for a year. You become her silent prayer partner and her secret up-lier. She

doesn’t know who you are.

Likewise someone will be caring for you in that same way. Secret Sisters are about encouraging, praying for, and supporng each other in small ways. If you want to

parcipate fill out the "SECRET SISTERS FORM” which can be found on our website (livingsaviortexas.org) or on the bullen board in the Fellowship hall and place it in the SECRET SISTERS BOX located in the Fel-

lowship Hall.

We will kick off the Secret Sisters drawing with a get together and recipe exchange in the Fellowship Hall on February 19 thfrom 5:30-7:30. If for some reason you are

unable to be there for the drawing you can draw a name the following Sunday by leng Donna or Susie know. It will all work out regardless of when you draw, and it will sll be a secret. Don’t let the drawing

date discourage you.

However, IT IS important to RETURN your FORM by Sunday February 16th - drop it in the box or email Don-na Bond ([email protected]) (936) 443-3334 or

Susie Yeager ([email protected]) (713) 542-2264

Living Savior LWML Mission Grants

At their January meeng the ladies of the LWML voted on how to disburse the local mission funds collected during the past year.

These funds come from :

- Donaons collected from members at the monthly meengs and monies raised throughout the year.

- Freewill offerings for the Lenten and Advent meals that they prepare - Monies from the Dime Project

- Many funds from Breakfast with Santa. Thanks to everyone who helped with Breakfast with Santa. We wouldn't be able to support as many organizaons as we do without your

help.

LWML Mite Mission Grant God’s Healing Power and Grace Lutheran Church of

Guatemala and Child Beyond Internaonal ($100,000) :

While Guatemala is a beauful country, many people suffer in extreme poverty. Over 50%

of the children are malnourished and have no access to any form of medical or dental care.

Most have no pre-natal or post-natal care and oen die from preventable diseases. Imman-uel Lutheran Church, Hood River, Oregon and the Lutheran Church of Guatemala have part-

nered together to share God’s physical and spiritual healing with as many souls as possible. They have developed a network of The Lu-

theran Church—Missouri Synod partner churches to send medical professionals and mis-sion teams to Guatemala on short term medical mission trips. In order to reach these iso-

lated villages they need the right tool, namely a Mobile Medical Mercy Mission Bus. The funds will be used to purchase and retrofit a bus with medical equipment. Bible school

equipment will also be purchased enabling the teams to heal both the physical and spiritu-al needs of the Guatemalan children. While the physicians tend to their physical needs,

the ministers and lay leaders go into the villages and set up bible classes, VBS and worship services. Child Beyond Internaonal will connue to financially support this ministry.

WHEREAS, our Lord Jesus in His Holy Word has declared that whatever we do for the least of His brothers and sisters, we do for Him; and WHEREAS, bringing spiritual and physical healing in His name to His desperately poor but beloved people of Guatemala honors His declaraon and fulfills His Great Commission; and WHEREAS, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hood River, Oregon's Guatemala mission non-profit organizaon, Immanuel Agape Ministries (doing business as Child Beyond Interna-onal) is in mission partnership with the Lutheran Church of Guatemala (LCG) and has the full approval of this grant by the LCG Bishop, Rev. Abdiel Orozco, a medical doctor himself;

W N V G? Greeters are very, very important to help meet the varied needs of visitors. People come to a church looking for a friendly face and appreciate it when someone takes the me to help them find their way and/or pass them on to someone who can best answer their quesons.

Unfortunately, we oen learn too late, that they will con-nue church shopping because up unl self-introducon, no one else has spoken a word to them.

Let’s not ever let that be said of us as a congregaon.
