ANNOUNCEMENTS Latest ACEND Accreditation Decisions Published Online The Accreditation Council for Educa- tion in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) is the Academy’s accrediting agency for education programs preparing stu- dents for careers as Registered Dieti- tians and Dietetic Technicians, Regis- tered. ACEND establishes and enforces accreditation standards that ensure the quality and continued improvement of nutrition and dietetics education pro- grams. The accreditation decisions made at the most recent ACEND meet- ing are available at http://www.eatright. org/ACEND/content.aspx?id7829 and include status of programs that have received candidacy for accreditation, full accreditation, probationary accredita- tion, and withdrawal from accreditation. ACEND Invites Program Accreditation Input Accredited dietetics education pro- grams are periodically reviewed to en- sure they uphold the standards set forth by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Part of the program review process is the consideration of third- party input on a program’s practices, procedures, and educational outcomes. Members with concern as to a pro- gram’s compliance with the standards are encouraged to forward their com- ments to ACEND. A list of programs un- der review for candidacy or full accred- itation and a corresponding site visit scheduled is available at http://www. eatright.org/ACEND/content.aspx? id7974. EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES Clinical Nutrition Management Symposium April 13-16, 2013, Ravella at Lake Las Vegas, Henderson, NV. The Clinical Nu- trition Management Dietetic Practice Group Symposium will be an excep- tional educational and networking ex- perience. The goals for the symposium are to identify strategies to lead and en- gage practitioners, gain insights into planning for future health care trends, use outcome measures and best prac- tices to drive innovation, identify criti- cal interdepartmental relationships that increase organizational influence, develop clinical nutrition leaders, and empower staff. In addition to general and concurrent sessions, there will be opportunities to network with other health care leaders, visit vendor dis- plays, and explore Las Vegas and its sur- rounding area. E-Learning Module on Vitamin D The alarming increase in vitamin D in- sufficiency in the United States has ironically coincided with an increasing recognition that vitamin D likely has a broader contribution to the protection of health and prevention of disease than previously appreciated.
