This month at Century, our kids enjoyed themselves at our Valentine's Day party. They enjoyed candy, cake, and soft drinks. The kids had fun playing musical chairs and dancing. For Black History month our kids worked together to design a display celebrating important leaders such as; Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., and Frederick Douglas.
For community service this month, the kids designed a mural for our YAL. The theme is “Our Community”. The mural will high light the Florence Firestone community through the eyes of its youth. Once completed, the mural will be on the wall in the art room. Essentially, our goal is to work on various murals throughout our facility.

The LEA students of La Puente High School made Valentine’s Day cards for the Seniors Living in the Emeritus Senior Villas. They let their creative juices flow, creating one of a kind hand made cards for the seniors. The students learned the importance of making someone else's day by spending an hour to make them a card. Some female students were able to go to the El Encanto Senior home to pamper some of the female residents for Valentine’s Day. They gave the ladies manicures so they were ready for their Valentine’s Day plans.
We were able to take some of the LEA students to Camp Courage for two paintball trips. The paintball competition has began to see which class has the best shooters. The students will take at least 7 trips this year to compete against each other. All classes will choose their best players to compete against the other classes to find out who is the top dog of paintball.

This month concludes our In-House Flag Football games. We averaged a total of forty-five kids in three divisions. The kids really enjoyed playing because it was a new sport for a lot of them. We also took our YAL kids ice skating this month on one of there days off of school. They all wore their lime green YAL t-shirts, and displayed them proudly. For a lot of our kids it was their first time ice skating. Our SYLC program this month volunteered during the Black History Celebration. They set up the exhibits, served food, drinks, and cleaned up at the end. This was a good community service for most of our kids because they learned about different cultures. They also learned our community's history, and the impact African Americans have made in modern day society.
