Welcome
We have great news to share this month.
Istanbulls is extending and after
establishing successful football teams it
has launched Istanbulls Basketball team!
The team will compete in newly
established Dubai Amateur Basketball
Leagues (DEBL) with Cem Kapancıoğlu as
the team coach.
Early February, we had our Istanbulls
Family BBQ party where we have
celebrated our juniors’ effort. In following
pages you can find the highlights from the
bbq party, an explanation about the Soccer
Star Challange that Istanbulls juniors have
participated and “Juniors hall of fame” for
last season. When you are with kids, it is
always fun. Thanks a lot for all who have
joined us.
Since the competitions are getting thight or
just starting, we believe mental fitness
plays a big role game preparation.
Therefore, there is an article about how to
get ready for the competitions and keep
focused.
Please do not hesitate to share your
thoughts and highly valuable feedback.

The Soccer Star Challenge
The Soccer Star Challenge is a football coaching, learning and assessment
programme, for boys and girls aged 6-16 years, run by the FA in the UK.
The programme consists of practices and games to enable children to learn
essential football techniques, together with six simple reliable tests.
The challenges focus upon six essential soccer techniques:
• Running with the ball
• Turning with the ball
• Speed (changing direction without the ball)
• Dribbling
• Heading
• Shooting
The tests reflect technical ability of the players in these techniques.
We did our first test on the 3rd of February 2011 during training and input the data
from our tests on the Thursday’s practice on to the FA website, which then rates
our players according to the targeted skills. Every player gets a certificate and we
will monitor the players' performance and their improvements by repeating tests
throughout the season. The Istanbulls brings international benchmarking to our
very own football school!

The players received their results and certificates at the Istanbulls BBQ Party on
the 11th February 2011.
During the bbq party, we have also held our year-end presentation and award
ceremony.
All team members get a certificate for their contributions to the team. All Football
School players also get their certificate to their commitment to the school’s training.
Well done for all Istanbulls juniors, it was an amazing season!

On 11th February
Istanbulls Family BBQ
Party has taken place
with the participation of
our junior, adult and
veteran team members
and their beloved ones.
Juniors from Istanbulls Football School have taken their certificates.

From Juniors to veterans, all Istanbulls team
members have come together.
Ladies have also played joined sports activities,
from volleyball to skipping rope.
Juniors proved that they will be a bigger challange
for their fathers in Kids vs. Parents game.
Istanbulls management has started looking
for new sports to participate in.

2011 Dubai Expat Basketball League kicks off
After establishing successful football teams, Istanbulls SC is stepping on
basketball courts and we are extremely excited about this season as it will be the
first time.
We believe this season will enable us to gain new friends, improve our personal
capabilities and become more productive in an interdependent world.
We know that sports of any kind shall bring the humanity better living conditions
and moreover team plays like basketball increases the ability to communicate and
see yourself through others.
Therefore we kindly ask everybody to support and cheer for this new baby of ours:

Mental Preparation for a Game
Start early. Preparing for a game starts the night before. Have a good sleep and rest
properly.
Visualise the game and then replay it over in your head. The visualisation must be
positive and will help train the mind and body to repeat the task under pressure.
Clear your head of all unnecessary thoughts and concentrate on the performance at
hand. Try not to let anyone upset you.
Keep calm and focused at all times.
Talk to encouraging, positive people, not people that have negative attitudes.
Think about success, not failure. Think about the best times in your career and the
good things you do. Concentrate on the positives you bring into being, not the
negatives. Your mind and body are one unit. What your mind sends to your body that
is how it will react.
Relax and have fun. It's almost impossible to do your best if you're extremely
stressed about doing perfect. And it's no fun if you have the, "destroy the other team at
all costs" attitude either.

Turkish Airlines Istanbulls could able to play only 2 matches in short February and
finalised the month with one win and one lost gaining 4 points in total. The team is still on
target and aiming to complete the league in first two, thus to qualify to the upper division.
The team is fit and trying to improve the team play in every match.
March is very critical for Turkish Airlines; the team has already started training for
upcoming games. If we can win 5 in remaining 8 matches, we can qualify to the upper
division. Therefore we would like tom invite all supporters to watch our matches and
support us!

Pınar Istanbulls – DAFL Division 4
January 2011 Game Results
Although this is its first year of Pınar Istanbulls, the team is doing great work in the 4th
division. Pınar Istanbulls has gained 6 points in February by winning 2 matches and
losing one. The team is still remains second in the table. If the team continues with its
current performance, we will be watching Pınar Istanbulls in 3rd division for 2011-2012
season.
There is only 6 match left to complete the league and we believe that if we win 4
matches out of six, we will defend the second position. Therefore March is very critical
for Pınar Istanbulls as well. If you have not seen Pınar Istanbulls yet; March will be your
last chance to watch this brilliant team.

Istanbulls U11 Team
Our First Season
We hope everybody enjoyed our
first season : It was a very
promising start to our football
career. Istanbulls U11 has played
10 games; won 3, lost 7 and picked
up 9 points, finished the league in
9th place. Our form throughout the
league was WLLWLWLLLL.
All season 11 different players took
part and we averaged 9.3 players
on the pitch per game. Orkun,
Rishan, Kasra and Marius attended
all games. We scored 22 goals; our
top goal scorer was Orkun with 11
goals and the runner up is Marius
with 8 goals. The Man of the match
table is quite tight: Tan was man of
the match 4 times and Marius held
this position in 3 games.
We have 2 very good goalkeepers in our squad and they have played in rotation. They are also both very
good when playing out of goal in the game. Bora was very good in defence and made many critical saves.
Tan is our "joker card": he has played in every position at the highest standard and with passion. Ahmet
has always played with a positive attitude and has done his best. Sencer has also played in defence and
midfield areas whenever and wherever we needed him. Aryan is our main bone in defence, try to stop all
attacks: his performance was outstanding. Arash always played with passion and style, never giving up, he
is getting stronger and stronger. Rishan and Kasra have improved a lot, whenever the team needed them
they were always ready. Orkun is our top goal scorer, he has battled alone most of his time and he did a
great job for the team.
Well done boys! You have done great in your first year. We strongly believe this team has deserved a
better position in the league. The team has potential to play quality and good team football. If you look back
at the beginning of the season and now, you can really see the difference. All players in the team have
improved a lot but still we need to work on our team play and help each other. We are sure that the team
will be even better next season... good luck to us !!
