Material Allowables:ASME IID, 2004 EDD, 2006 ADD

Goal:Determine if the Hydraulic Manifold Block is acceptable for use at 300 psi @ 250F according to VIII-1 rules. Due to the shape of the body ASME VIII-1 calculations are not used. ASME VIII-2 is used to interpret the results produced by the FEA. ASME VIII-1 material allowables are used.

Results:The peak stress in the Hydraulic Manifold Body is found at the junction between Port 3 and Port 4 inside the body. This peak stress is 2,949 psi. The allowable stress value for SA-479 316 stainless bar is 20,000 psi. The stress is below the membrane allowable stress.

Conclusion:The peak measured stress is less than the allowable membrane stress for the material. The design is acceptable.
