Role and ResponsibilityMy role at this agency was being an active volunteer. Also, a few hours I was answering phone calls in the office. My responsibilities included to interact, play, engage, talk, and watch the children and their parents (families).

Strengths1. They help families who are poor and provide them with temporary places to stay; they

provide services and shelter to working homeless families. 2. They are each given a financial advisor until they are back on their feet; while being

sheltered overnight at local congregations, homeless families work closely with case managers to address the underlying causes of their particular situations. Strategies include developing resources for job training, educational opportunities, childcare, and other needs.

3. Also they offer other programs like, after care, walk-in dinners, camp lots of fun, and youth council for the homeless; the walk-in dinner, for example, is where Family Promise volunteers provide and serve an evening meal from 120 to 150 people every night of the year in Hackensack, New Jersey. The dinner is open to shelter residents and anyone needing a free meal.

Weaknesses1. They do not accept any money donations from anyone to be given to the families in need.

Since Family Promise is a non-profit organization, no one is allowed to make a donation of any kind, except for material items; but they do not accept any money.

2. And second, currently, they are not accepting any material items, like couches, chairs, clothes, etc. to be donated because they do not need any more at the time.

I would recommend working for Family Promise for a future placement because everyone that works there is very nice and helpful. It is also a rewarding experience when helping out the homeless families along with their children. Contributing to this non-profit organization is a great way to start off if one wants to work with families. I have been involved in this program during high school as a volunteer and I have enjoyed working with all of the families.
