FASHION DESIGNCOURSE INFORMATION

INTRODUCTION

ADMISSION CRITERIA

COURSE AIMS

Bachelor of Arts

The course aim is to offer professional education in the different roles of the fashion system. Its structure suppor-ts the students so that they can consistently and progressively reach their career goals. The learning course relies on technical and design laboratories to take students to a good level of "making" skills, which allow them, throu-ghout the three years, to carry out their projects and to experiment with new techniques. At the same time, stu-dents will be engaged in design and theoretic subjects, acquiring cultural and methodological tools. At the end of the course students will be able to interact with all the relevant roles within the industry, from technicians to communicators, and successfully enter the professional world.

Throughout the three years, students are guided and supported in the research of their own passions and per-sonal skills, in their personal development and in the identification of the most suitable professional fields. The school is closely interconnected with the professional world, which allows students to make use of all inputs, knowledge of new technologies, market requests, innovative textiles, trendy materials and communication pla-tforms that are typical of the fashion world. Some of the projects are developed in collaboration with compa-nies within the industry. Thanks to this approach, students can acquire the specific dynamics of design and pro-duction that are typical of this field.

Ideal candidates are strongly inclined towards fashion and truly passionate about it. They can identify trends, are curious about visual languages and the social aspects of fashion and can work well in team. Sensitivity and faci-lity for researching colours, materials and shapes.

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY

COURSE OVERVIEW

The achievement of learning objectives is generally assessed at the end of the term, although intermediate evalua-tions may occur. Assessment methods vary according to the learning objectives being assessed and may include:

› Verbal exams

› Written exams

› Practical demonstration

› Graded exercises

› Graded revision

› Papers

› Complete projects

› Submission of papers, projects or research works

Throughout the three years of the course, students will gradually acquire knowledge and skills.

The first year gives them basic technical, technological, representation, method and cultural tools. Many subjects are taught in labs, in order to get to know the materials, their applications and the tools for fashion manufacture.

During the second year, students learn, apply and develop the methods of design in different fields, such as fashion design, accessories design and textile design. They define their knowledge of pattern making and sampling and go through the steps that lead from the project to the sample. At the same time, they acquire new cultural tools and the ability to interpret different visual languages. During this year, also marketing dynamics for fashion and indu-strial design are learnt. Some optional subjects (performing techniques, illustration and photography) allow the students to go in depth in their own interests and to choose a specialization course. It is during this second year that students will define their career path by choosing between Fashion Design and Fashion styling and communication.

During the third year students will design and carry out their own thesis project for fashion, within the previously identified scope.

Depending on the chosen specialization, the course includes the design of an entire collection, its representative technical development, the manufacture of several outfits for a catwalk show, or the creation of corporate identi-ty for a fashion collection, from the logo to the press communicates, videos, photoshooting and creation of a com-munication event.

A common workshop for the two specializations focuses on the main communication and event design systems, and on the synergy between product and communication designers.

The optional subjects allow the students to complement their project design knowledge in areas that are linked to fashion, such as decoration, costumes and design. As for the cultural area, it is possible to choose a course betwe-en history of cinema and aesthetics.

› Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools

› Demonstrations

› Exercises and revisions

› Labs

› Seminars and workshops with industry professionals or visiting lecturers

› Intensive workshops on specific subjects

› Development of individual or group projects

› Individual study or research

› Field trips related to the professional field
