Proportion

The spacial, or size, relationship of all of the parts in a design to each other and to the whole. Also called “scale”. Body is 8 heads tall. 3/8 is

waist to top of head. 5/8 is from waist down. Styles that complement that natural figure are more flattering and stay in style longer.

Emphasis

Concentration of interest in a particular part or area of a design. One part is more important or more noticeable, it is the center of the outfit.

It is best to have one area of interest.

Gradation: Also called progression. An increase or decrease in design elements.

Transition:A fluid rhythm created when a curved line leads the eye over an angle.
