PreZ says The month of May, 70 degree weather and the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Finals! Life does not get more exciting than this! The first round of the Anaheim Ducks will show us what the Red Wings are made of. I have confidence that Coach Babcock will keep the boys focused and we will show the Anaheim Ducks what the Red Wings are made of!

Thank you to the For ‘em Club members for voting me President of the club. I have been in the club for 34 years and am proud to represent all of you. I’m very excited about the upcoming year. The club has brought my life a lot of good memories and life-long friends. For those of you who have been around for awhile, you know that I always say “This club is your club and it is what you make it to be.” Please let me know if you have any ideas for the club. This is a social club, so we want you to be active and have fun!

To Kyle Franklin, Greg Roell, Diane Hoffman, Ashley Zub, Dennis Guyot and Kim Bowerman, thank you very much for your service during the past year. There are new officers, board members and committee chair people for the upcoming year and we have an exciting year planned for the club.

Thank you to all of the members who have been helping out at the games/events this season. You have done a great job and represent the club and the Red Wing Organization well. Everyone should be proud to be a For ‘em Club member.

Say your prayers that the Wings stay focused and healthy and we will see Lord Stanley back home in Detroit! Go Wings!

sOcial sceneBowling&PizzaPartyatShoreLanes-SundayApril,14thAnother successful bowling party was held at Shore Lanes in St. Clair Shores on Sunday, April 14th. Forty-two members and guests enjoyed three games of no-tap bowling followed by delicious pizza, wings, salad and pop. It was an afternoon full of fun.

Winners of the event included Debbie Hoffman, who won the first Mystery Game with her score of 155 and Abby Munafo, who won the second Mystery Game with her score of 85. The ladies high game was won by Sally Thomas who bowled a 196 and men’s high game was

won by Ron Cole who bowled a perfect 300 game! For their efforts they both won Red Wing Power Decals. Lorraine was the lucky winner of the 50/50 raffle which totaled $81.00. Congratulations to Team #7, our 2013 Bowling Champs: Mark Bignall, Diane Hoffman, Ann Marie Scibilia and Ron Cole, who took home embroidered mini Red Wing flags.

Thank you to Shore Lanes and their kitchen staff for taking such good care of us, as they do every year. Another thank you to the Hoffman sisters, especially Kathy, who really sets this all up for us. Sue Lefever, thank you for always setting up the teams for this

event and Joan Pusilo, thank you for collecting for the 50/50 so that Alex could concentrate on his bowling. A big thank you to everyone who came and participated in this event!

Since social events aren’t scheduled in May or June in anticipation of the playoff schedule, our next events will be the Annual Picnic on July 14th and the Camping Weekend starting on Friday, July 26th. We will also announce our get-togethers at Hazel Park Raceway when those dates become available. In the meantime...GO WINGS!!

On March 31, 2013, the Detroit Red Wings celebrated Gordie Howe’s 85th birthday, wearing special #9 jerseys for pre-game warm-ups. The jereys were later auctioned for charity. During a break in the afternoon game versus Chicago, Howe’s children, as well as former Red Wings superstars Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio, joined Howe as the crowd joyously sang Happy Birthday.

Just want to remind everyone to make sure you sell your raffle tickets for Gilda’s Club. With the Red Wings in the playoffs this might a good opportunity to sell them. I will be sending out emails to everyone with information on upcoming volunteering opportunities for Gilda’s Club and for Turning Point, including Baconfest Michigan, Shelter set up, Bra’s for a Cause and others.

If you’re interested in donating a decorated bra for Bra’s for a Cause, the deadline for entering is September 1, 2013. If anyone needs a Bra donation form let me know, I can email it to you or it can be downloaded from the Bra’s for a Cause website. Forms will also be available at the next meeting. They will also be looking for cancer survivors who are interested in being a part of the Art Bra Fashion Show. The models will be modeling the bras at the event on the stage. If you are interested contact me via email or let me know at the next meeting.

The 2013 Gilda’s Walk will be held in Royal Oak this year on October 12, 2013, and sign-up information will be sent in June. The walk is taking place in a new location and I hope to see some new faces attending this year. It’s a fun event for the whole family.

Stay tuned to Fanfare for up and coming charity volunteering opportunities and fun events to support our two charities, Gilda’s Club and Turning Point.

BrasforaCauseAnUpliftingExperiencetoBenefitGilda’sClubMetroDetroit Saturday, September 28, 2013 Royal Oak Music Theatre www.brasforacausemichigan.com

We invite you to fire up those creative neurons to design and donate an Art Bra for our 5th Annual Bras for a Cause! As a third party fundraiser for Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit, Bras for a Cause has proven to be a phenomenal success over the past four years. In fact, it has been responsible for donating over $250,000 to Gilda’s Club since 2009! Each year, more than 700 guests attend Bras for a Cause where over sixty art bras created by local artists, celebrities, survivors and their friends and families are displayed and auctioned. This is your chance to be part of something amazing – your chance to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer – and your chance to be creative and have a lot of FUN!

On the night of the event, art bras and other featured items will be displayed, sold and auctioned to benefit Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit. Proceeds from the event will help Gilda’s Club continue to offer emotional and social support to men,

women, teens and children impacted by all types of cancer. Programs at Gilda’s Club like The Rack Pack, a rare support group for women in their 20s and 30s who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, depend on funding from events like Bras for a Cause to continue. Gilda’s Club is unique because it provides a homelike environment with comfy couches, fireplaces and masters level facilitators. It’s a place where people can work through the emotional aspects of cancer – fear, anger, frustration – and reach the good stuff buried inside: laughter, fun and camaraderie.

Events throughout the evening include silent and live auctions, live music, food, drinks and lots of fun! We invite you to design and create an art bra to donate to this year’s Bras for a Cause to be displayed throughout the evening. Art bras will be part of the silent auction and a few will be worn by survivors during the highlight of the evening!

TheSurvivorsFashionShow!

Whether you choose to stitch, glue, weld, mold, paint, melt, scrap, craft or anything else, use your artistic talent and imagination to create a truly unique and individual art bra. The deadline for submission of art bras is September 1st. Although we sincerely appreciate your efforts and creativity, we have a limited display area. As such, we ask that you limit your submission to one per person and submit your art bra as early as possible for advertising purposes. Perhaps YOUR art bra can help us promote our event!

Gilda’sFamilyWalkWrapupandresults!

It was a great day at our Gilda’s Family Walk in October! Our guests had a fun walk at Lawrence Tech and a little rain certainly did not dampen spirits. Nearly

$90,000 was raised to support our cancer programs! We are thankful to have the support from the community and our sponsors!

Save the date! Please join us for the Gilda’s Family Walk as we celebrate 15 years of walking to support our cancer program! This year’s Walk will take place in Royal Oak on October 12, 2013! Registration will be open in June!
