Review for DJ Icarus

My friend Scotty told me about DJ Icarus and I was curious to find out what he was all

about. I must say I really dig his sound. He is originally from Durban, but moved to

London at the age of 6. He travels to and from South Africa to the U.K nowadays. He

specializes in tight blending and fast mixing, which gives him an edge. I think you will

all enjoy this interview with DJ Icarus, he is witty and a super rad guy ☺ I have some

exciting news, T.I.T.S is now sponsoring him!!! hank you to Jenna Malan for

contributing to the lovely pictures and editing them to perfection. Happy reading! x

DJ Icarus is quite an

interesting name...how the

heck did you come up with

that??

I was obsessed with Greek mythology when i was younger and the story of Icarus flying to the sun, getting his wings burnt and falling to his death is about failed ambitions. The name motivates me to follow my dreams.

You were born here in

Durban and then moved to

the UK? Do you still think

of yourself as a South

African or have the

British brainwashed you??;)

Haha South African all the way ekse!

Describe your sound?

"DARK"

Please enlighten all of us on

your impressive credentials!!

Well I have played in clubs all around London supported name's like FRESH (Breakbeat Kaos), NYMFO, The Upbeats to name a few. I make my own music and i have recently been Signed to a couple of record label's. My first Digital release due out early 2012.

Where is your favourite

spot to play at?

At the moment it would have to be Origin, That club rocks just as much as any club in London.

What is the most difficult

part of being a DJ?

Not getting drunk on the free booze. Haha

What recent DJ's do you

enjoy listening to?

Locally: Veranda Panda & Night Vision are killing it in the Durban underground scene. But internationally it would have to be Andy C. He is my god!

What is the oddest thing a

fan has ever done to you?

A girl once asked me to play Mariah Carey in the middle of a Drum&Bass set

Do you travel a lot?

I am always back in forth from

the U.K, I hate long airplane trips.

Who is the most

inspirational person you

have ever met? It would have to be Four Tet his music touches me in funny place and he is such a down to earth guy.

What does music mean to

you? Music is my life

What do you like to do on

your day off? Play Xbox & Surf.

What do you want to

achieve in life? I one day would like to be a sound designer for a gaming company – but if all else fails, a gardener - haha

Are you studying? I was studying at Point Blank Music College in London, but since then I have been working as a sound designer in Durban.
