National day of Romania- Great Union Day -

•About

Great Union Day(Romanian: ZiuaMarii Uniri, also called Unification Day) occurring on December 1, is the national holiday of Romania

It commemorates the assembly of the delegates of ethnic Romanians held in Alba Iulia, which declared the Union of Transylvania with Romania.

•First celebration

The first December 1 national holiday, after 1990, we saw the largest celebrations in Alba Iulia, the location in which the union of Transylvania with Romania was signed. They were marked by significant political polarization: CorneliuCoposu, then the leader of the anticommunist opposition.

•What are we doing

December 1 is a free day in the country and in capital Bucharest it is usually celebrated with a military parade in Bucharest.

Elsewhere in the country, various events are organized, commemorating the Romanians who died during the First World War. In recent years, various city halls like to organize concerts to celebrate the day, turning this more into a popular celebration.

•About

The United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, also known as The Romanian United Principalities, was the official name of Romania following the 1859 election of Alexandru Ioan Cuza as the Ruling Prince or domnitor of both territories.

On 24 January 1862, the Principality of Moldavia and the Principality of Wallachia formally united to create the United Principalities. Alongside Transylvania, the principalities became the core of the Romanian nation state.

A new constitution came into effect in 1866 giving the country the official name Romania, and on 14 March 1881, it became the Kingdom of Romania.

Epiphany is a Christian feastday thatcelebrates therevelationof God theSon as a humanbeing in JesusChrist.

Romania and Moldova

In Romania and Moldova, Epiphany, is called Bobotează. In South-eastern Romania, following religious services, men participate in winter horse races.

Before the race, the men line up with their horses before the priest who will bless them by sprinkling them with green branches that have been dipped into Epiphany holy water.

Sibiu International Theatre Festival

What is it about?

The Sibiu International Theatre Festival is the most important annual festival of performing arts in Romania. The programmebrings participants from 70 countries into Sibiu, and it has 350 events taking place in 66 areas, and caters for 62,000 spectators day for a total of approximately 600,000 spectators.

Tens of thousands of people from the town itself, the local region and abroad meet in Sibiu to celebrate a cultural event aimed at promoting globally recognized standards over its ten days of performances and artistic creativity.

The festival unofficially its first edition in 1993 under the guidance of the initiative and guidance of the Romanian actor Constantin Chiriac and with the support of various other actors and from foreign actors and acting professors from internationally acclaimed theater schools.

TIFF Festival

What is this: “TIFF”

• Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) is presented by Romanian Film Promotion. Founded in 2002, Transilvania TIFF is the first international feature film festival in Romania.

Information about this festival:

• During these twelve years, Transilvania TIFF has become a well-known brand in Romania, not only due to the outstanding films screened every year, but also for the effective organization.

• Transilvania TIFF's 2007 edition, was the first to be presented simultaneously in Cluj and Sibiu, that year's European Capital of Culture.The last editions of Transilvania TIFF have not only been spectacular, but also showcased an extremely generous and diverse offer of films and sensational events. The 2014 edition presented almost 400 screenings, attracting over 65.000 spectators during the ten days of the festival.

Goals

• Romanian Film Promotion was founded in 2001 and its main goals are to encourage and promote young filmmakers, help distribution and promotion of the European cinema, organize seminars and conferences about film production and distribution, and educate an upcoming generation's taste in quality cinema.
