MISSION STATEMENT

Joyfully recognizing God’s commitment

and faithfulness to us, FAITH LUTHERAN

CHURCH exists to serve God through serv-

ing God’s people. We eagerly work towards

the realization of God’s Kingdom by:

• Offering praise-filled worship to God.

• Nurturing individual spiritual growth.

• Fostering an environment of caring and

acceptance.

• Reaching out to serve the needs of our

community.

God’s love stirs us to touch others with

the same love we have received—and invites

them to share our life of praise and service.

Faith Lutheran Church (ELCA) Columbus, Wisconsin

AS MEMBERS OF FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH WE

PROMISE:

• To attend services regularly. • To support the congregation financially. • To live responsibly as a Christian witness. • To become as involved as possible in the total life and work

of the congregation.

And this we promise to do by the help of God.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the

conviction of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1

August 2020

MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF FAITH –

August, 2020 brings another opportunity to experience the richness of God’s gifts to His people in Columbus. We have the benefit of a new minister to assist us in worship. Pas-tor Mary Pharmer will join us to lead the Sunday morning on-line worship from our sanctuary. She will be familiar to some of us who first met her last summer as she led us twice during the absence of Pastor Larry. Her position will be as “supply pastor” for the time.

We also have the benefit of several recommendations from Pastor Beth to the council and congregation. Her first recommendation was to keep things simple during this re-maining time of change. Focus on three or four strengths of our group and work to keep those effective and growing. Those areas are music as a part of worship, support of our little pantry/library, the confirmation education of our youth, and the efforts to bring for-ward a full-time, settled pastor.

Finally, we have the blessing of a committed staff to support these efforts. Lisa and Chris continue their work to find ways to communicate with us, encourage us, and bring forward new ways to keep us connected. Thank you from all of us to them for their on-going work.

We will continue on-line worship for the month of August and into September. The wor-ship committee has asked us to plan for an on-line/in-person/outdoor worship event in September and perhaps October. A set of parents will be meeting to review the confir-mation program for the fall season. And we still need to coordinate something for our youngest members who will be starting a school year in an unusual way.

God blesses us every day with new and exciting opportunities to serve Him and our neighbor. Thank you for your work to the benefit of God’s kingdom on earth.

Henry

The spare change container is in the Narthex, within the goose decoy. The mission for your spare pennies, nickels and dimes is the

ELCA “Good Gifts” program. Starting this new year the flock is up to 90 chickens! Our few extra coins are turned into food and livelihood for people in need, world-wide. Thank you.

For men only…third Thursdays at Faith

Hosted by the Java men (Denny, Pat, & Al). Come for food, fun, fellowship and a little faith exploration at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, August 20th, Text or leave a message by 8/18 on Denny’s mobile phone 920 296 9388 to confirm your attendance. Feel free to invite a friend.

THE RED

TENTERS’

SCHOOL SUPPLY CHALLENGE TO FAITH LUTHERAN CONGREGATION

Faith in Stitches is working on an outreach project to make school bags for Lutheran World Relief. We are making 20 school bags and we need your help to fill the bags with school supplies. The stores will soon have school supply sales, so please help us fill these bags. Listed below are the supplies that will go in each bag:

• Padded or spiral notebooks of ruled paper, 8 ½ x 11, totaling 150-200 sheets (If us-ing 70 count notebooks, include 3); no loose-leaf papers

• 1 blunt scissors • 1 30-cm ruler, or with both inches and centimeters • 1 pencil sharpener • 1 eraser, about 2½ “long • 6 new #2 unsharpened pencils with erasers, secured with a rubber band • 1 box of 16 or 24 crayons • 12 sheets of 9” X 12” construction paper, assorted colors

Help us meet our goal and please bring your supplies to church by August 31. The church will ship quilts, school bags, and other needed supplies in fall.
