To guarantee the safety and efficiency of its equipment, FAAC also stronglyrecommends that qualified personnel perform an annual safety test on yourgate system, as well as maintain the overall hydraulic or mechanical system.

What is UL 325 and why is it important?

In order to prevent personal injuries associated with automated gate systems, United Laboratories (UL), along with several government-sponsored consumer safety organizations, developed what is called the UL 325 Standards for gate safety (much the same as has now beendone with automatic garage door systems). These standards are meant to protect people, not vehicles, by providing at least two types ofsafety measures (primary and secondary) in the event a person becomes entrapped by the gate system. Consequently, every manufacturermust have their products tested at an approved laboratory to ensure that their safety measures work. For FAAC, our safety measures includea hydraulic bypass as primary and photobeams as secondary...and we've been providing these safety standards for more than 40 years!

FAAC will be happy to package your gate system so that it can be UL 325 compliant, right out of the box. For more information on additionalaccess control options, refer to the “ACCESSORIES CATALOG” section on the Home Page of our web site at www.faacusa.com.

Gate OperatorThe swing gate operator(either gate-mounted or in-ground) automates the gate.

LoopsNormally used to activate traffic lights, In-ground loop detectors can also signal yourgate operator to open or close. Butremember, they are designed to protectvehicles only, not to protect pedestri-ans or individuals inside the fenced area.

PhotobeamsPhotobeams protect anythingthat “breaks” the beam (vehi-cles, pedestrians, animals and,especially, children) whichcauses a reversal of the gateoperators. Two sets of photo-beams are recommended forbest coverage.

Free ExitFor residential purposes, this in-ground loopor radio system automatically opens andcloses your gate system to allow guests orvisitors to exit your property without youhaving to do anything.

Gate-safe: During power outages, the hydraulic operator can be configured toallow the gate to be pushed open, permitting emergency access to your property.

Gate-secure: During power outages, your gate stays closed and locked.

Your gate system can also be set up to provide specialsafety options, including “Gate-safe” and “Gate-secure”configurations (refer also to #9 on this sheet).

Gate stops are required onall FAAC gate systems.Stops limit the extent ofgate travel and help pro-

tect the operator from damaging wearand tear. Stops can be fabricated and

attached to the gate leaves, but don’t look particularly attractive and canalso create unsafe “pinch points.” These problems can be solved byinstalling gate stops that are totally concealed inside the gate operatorcover.

Warning LightA warning light will alert anyonenear the gate of its imminentmovement plus helps toilluminate the gate area.

Battery Back-upHaving a battery back-up unit aspart of your gate system providesthe peace of mind of knowing thatyour gate will continue to operateeven if the power goes out.

Control PanelThe “brain” of the gate system, the control panel is usuallyhoused in a fiberglass or metal, weather-resistant enclosurealong with other important access control devices. Forsecurity and safety, it is recommended that this enclosurebe lockable. Another recommended option is to install a“pre-wired” control system from the manufacturer thatprovides accurate, organized wiring which is extremelyhelpful in future troubleshooting or repairs.

Access Control OptionsA variety of access control devices are available, includingthese conventional options:• Keypad: provides multiple codes for different visitors suchas relatives, workers, regular deliveries, etc.• Keyswitch/card reader: simplified access control using aspecial key or coded plastic card.• Telephone entry: connects to existing phone line and fea-tures distinctive ring to alert you that someone is at thegate. Gates can be opened from the phone itself, and a“hold open” feature allows for gates to remain open forextended periods of time.• Radios: radio receiver plugs into control panel and trans-mitters are conveniently kept in vehicles or on key ring.

DECISION #1:WHICH DIRECTION TO SWING THE GATE?

FAAC gate mounted and in-ground operators can swing gates either inward or outward. Gatemounted operators can be kept inside the property, while the direction of gate swing is best fortraffic flow. In-ground operators are mounted beneath the gates. These options reduce opportu-nities for vandalism and improve appearance.

DECISION #3:SPEED AND LEAF LENGTH

Some thought should be given to the speed at which the gate will travel. The longer the gate leaf,the faster the traveling edge must move to clear an area in a given amount of time.

A speed of 40 feet/minute (12.2 meters/minute) is a “bench mark” velocity. It permits efficient operation whilelimiting the energy in the moving gate leaf. The lower the energy, the less chance of damage to property or injury topeople in the event of accidental contact with the moving gate.

DECISION #4:WHAT TYPE OF MOUNTING GEOMETRY?

Decisions regarding mounting geometry apply to gate mounted operators: Models 412,415, 402, 422 and 400.

As shown in the diagrams below, the operators must be mounted at an angle to the gate. Correct mounting geome-try assures that the desired degrees of swing are achieved, that the gate speed is correct, and that the operator andgate will operate properly and have a long life.

Because the BC Pro and 700I battery backup systems run off the batteries,gate operation during a power outage is dependant upon the batteries beingwell conditioned and charged. If they are not, the voltage does not runthrough to the control panel being backed up. The battery backup systemdoes not shut down at all during a power outage, instead powering all periph-erals being backed up with our battery backup system. Thus, the moreperipherals used, the faster the batteries will die. Once the batteries do die,the gates will become inoperable and will stop at the position they were atwhen the batteries failed. Therefore, it is important to understand that the BCPro or 700I battery backup systems are not intended to provide long termservice in a Fail secure application (gates remain closed during power out-age). Again, long term power outages could result in the batteries failing atsome point, possibly leaving the gates either partially or fully open or closed.

Because the BC Pro and 700I battery backup systems run off the batteries,gate operation during a power outage is dependant upon the batteries beingwell conditioned and charged. If they are not, the voltage does not runthrough to the control panel being backed up. The battery backup systemdoes not shut down at all during a power outage, instead powering all periph-erals being backed up with our battery backup system. Thus, the moreperipherals used, the faster the batteries will die. Once the batteries do die,the gates will become inoperable and will stop at the position they were atwhen the batteries failed. Therefore, it is important to understand that the BCPro or 700I battery backup systems are not intended to provide long termservice in a Fail secure application (gates remain closed during power out-age). Again, long term power outages could result in the batteries failing atsome point, possibly leaving the gates either partially or fully open or closed.

The 615 BBR control panel operates the barrier for applications where automatic close is preferred; for most parking retrofit applications; and for preventing tailgating (S modes):

Photobeam sets help prevent entrapment between the sliding gate leaf and another object by using the safety logic of the control panel.

Limited Warranty

To the original purchaser only: FAAC International, Inc., warrants for the time period indicated in each product’s description (or product title page) from the date ofinvoice, the gate operator systems and other related systems and equipment manufactured by FAAC S.p.A. and distributed by FAAC International, Inc., to be freefrom defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for which it was intended provided it has been properly installed and operated. FAACInternational, Inc.’s obligations under this warranty shall be limited to the repair or exchange of any part or parts manufactured by FAAC S.p.A. and distributed byFAAC International, Inc. Defective products must be returned to FAAC International, Inc., freight prepaid by purchaser, within the warranty period. Items returned willbe repaired or replaced, at FAAC International, Inc.’s option, upon an examination of the product by FAAC International, Inc., which discloses, to the satisfaction ofFAAC International, Inc., that the item is defective. FAAC International, Inc. will return the warranted item freight prepaid. The products manufactured by FAAC S.p.A.and distributed by FAAC International, Inc., are not warranted to meet the specific requirements, if any, of safety codes of any particular state, municipality, or otherjurisdiction, and neither FAAC S.p.A. nor FAAC International, Inc., assumes any risk or liability whatsoever resulting from the use thereof, whether used singly or incombination with other machines or apparatus.

Any products and parts not manufactured by FAAC S.p.A. and distributed by FAAC International, Inc., will carry only the warranty, if any, of the manufacturer. Thiswarranty shall not apply to any products or parts thereof which have been repaired or altered, without FAAC International, Inc.’s written consent, outside of FAACInternational, Inc.’s workshop or altered in any way so as, in the judgment of FAAC International, Inc. , to affect adversely the stability or reliability of the product(s) orhas been subject of misuse, negligence, or accident, or has not been operated in accordance with FAAC International, Inc.’s or FAAC S.p.A.’s instructions or has beenoperated under conditions more severe than, or otherwise exceeding, those set forth in the specifications for such product(s). Neither FAAC S.p.A. nor FAACInternational, Inc., shall be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever resulting, directly or indirectly, from the use or loss of use of the product(s). Without limiting theforegoing, this exclusion from liability embraces a purchaser’s expenses for downtime or for making up downtime, damages for which the purchaser may be liable toother persons, damage to property, and injury to or death of any persons. Neither FAAC S.p.A. nor FAAC International, Inc., assumes nor authorizes any person toassume for them any other liability in connection with the sale or use of the products of FAAC S.p.A. or FAAC International, Inc. The warranty hereinabove set forthshall not be deemed to cover maintenance parts, including, but not limited to hydraulic oil, filters, or the like. No agreement to replace or repair shall constitute anadmission by FAAC S.p.A. or FAAC International, Inc., of any legal responsibility to effect such replacement to make such repair, or otherwise. This limited warrantyextends only to wholesale customers who buy directly through FAAC International, Inc.’s normal distribution channels. FAAC International, Inc., does not warrant itsproducts to end consumers. Consumers must inquire from their selling dealer as to the nature and extent of that dealer’s warranty, if any.

This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied including the warranties of merchantability and fitness for use. This warranty shall notapply to products or any part thereof which have been subject to accident, negligence, alteration, abuse, or misuse or if damage was due to improper installation oruse of improper power source, or if damage was caused by fire, flood, lightning, electrical power surge, explosion, wind storm, hail, aircraft or vehicles, vandalism, riotor civil commotion, or acts of God.

Terms of Sale

Important NoticePrices shown in this list are based on the availability of items when the price list was printed. Prices are subject to change without notice. A minimum billing charge of$25.00 net plus shipping cost will be billed for all orders received. Whenever possible, we suggest that you combine orders for all parts to surpass the minimum cost.Product delivery time is subject to product availability. We are not responsible for any damages caused by a delay in shipping or product availability.

PricingAll quoted prices for products are discounted according to the list price provided in our most current pricing manual. Discounts quoted do not apply to special orderitems. Contact the factory for Dealer/Distributor pricing on special orders.

Credit TermsWe are pleased to offer one of the most generous discount terms available in the industry.

Our credit terms are net 30 days. Credit terms apply only to open accounts in good standing and only to merchandise. Balances remaining unpaid after the 30th dayare subject to a 1.75% per month finance charge. This is an annual cost to you of 21%. We compute the finance charge by applying the 1.75% rate to the amount ofthe invoice past due for every month it is past due. The balance of your account is determined by taking the balance you owed at the end of the previous billing cycleand subtracting all payments and credits received during the current billing cycle. Accounts past due forty-five (45) days will be placed on credit hold until the accountis brought up-to-date. Accounts over sixty (60) days past due that have no payment arrangements will be considered delinquent and subject to collection remedies.The dealer/distributor will be responsible for all collection expenses. A current signed credit application must be provided before an account is opened, subject to credit approval.

DeliveryAll prices are quoted F.O.B. our factory. The purchaser is obligated to submit claims for damages or shortages of freight directly to the freight carrier within 30 dayswhen due to carrier neglect.

Material Returned for Credit or RepairGoods may be returned for credit or exchange under certain conditions. You must contact the factory for instructions and an authorization number. Merchandise returned for credit must be current models, unused, and uninstalled - in new condition. Freight must be prepaid on all authorized returns to FAAC International, Inc. The repair or replacement of product and parts is subject to availability, and repair time is not guaranteed. We may have loaner operators available,and they are subject to rental charges. All damages to loaner operators are the responsibility of the Dealer/Distributor. Repaired or replaced parts carry a 90-day warranty. A 15% restocking charge will be applied to goods returned for credit. Goods returned for repair will be handled immediately when the following conditions exist:

1. Name and address of sender are enclosed with material.

2. The authorization number is clearly visible on the exterior of each package returned.

3. A brief description of the problem and the requested repair is included with the shipment.

We will not be responsible for poorly packaged equipment. Shipments of 70 lb or less should beshipped via United Parcel Service.
