How big was the spill you ask? Well, the Exxon Valdez oil tanker hit Alaska’s Bligh Reef carrying 53 million gallons of crude oil ripping open its hull and releases more than 11 million gallons of crude oil over 3000 square miles

The oil spill occurred in Prince William Sound Alaska, in Bligh Reef.

The cause of the spill was that the Exxon Valdez Oil Tanker was going across Bligh Reef and its hull struck reef which ripped open the hull releasing the 11+ million gallons of oil

How much damage did the oil spill cause?

The oil spill had an over time affect, effecting wildlife and the ecosystem. People stepped in to help clean the oil spill. Many animals were saved, but many animals died.

What methods were used to clean up the spill?

Well, to clean up the Exxon Valdez oil spill there were 10,000 workers, close too 1000 boats and around 100 planes and helicopters were needed to clean the spill. They used skimmers that cleared off the oil on the top of the water. To this day, there is still oil on some coast lines in beaches.
