EXXON VALDEZ OIL SPILL

What hapenned

On march 24, 1989 there was a tanker from the oil company Exxon shipping from the port Valdez in Alaska, his objective was to deliver 53 millions of gallons of crude oil o Los Angeles.

On its way the ship found itself in front an iceberg that blocked its way, the captain gave order to go around the ice, but to return as soon as possible to normal route to avoid a famous reef that could damage the ship, when the tanker was going to return to its normal course it crashed with the reef releasing 10,9 millions of gallons of oil.

The consequences

When the ship crashed a part of the reef broke the tank in which the oil was storage, when it released the 10,9 millions of gallons of oil that went over a coast damaging not only the plants and the ecosystem, it also put in a high risk of extinction many plants.

In that beach many animals includings crabs,seals and otters where almost exctinct, that coast in the east of alaska is still, after 21 years of the accident, under treatment. Many people thought it was the worst oil spill in the world, until last month…

What Happened

Last Month the unite states government decided to expand the digging capacity of the Transocean oil station, the deepwater horizon, when they were making all the procedures to do this something went wrong, a pipe full of oil broke releasing all the crude as in the surface as in the deeps of the sea bottom.

The consequences

The area in which the station was located was near a zone in which the economy was based in some crustaceans as shrimps, crabs and clams, as so as some seahorses that were living n the area, this spill is considered the worst in the history because of his impact, Exxon Valdez was almost as bad as this but, was only in the surface of the sea, this pipe broke making the oil to spill form the bottom to top, this is surely a tragedy, one we will remember and be carefully not to repeat.
