Conceptual Unit Theme: “Exploring the Landscape”

Unit Goal:1. TSW create three artworks using landscape as inspiration.2. TSW use a different technique and medium and design elements and principles for each

artwork.3. TSW discuss environments from multiple regions as well as their own linking similarities in

order to create new knowledge.4. TSW learn new art vocabulary for discussing the landscapes found in art history, of their

own and of their peers’.

Landscape Collage

Lesson Objective

• TSW create a landscape using their new knowledge of landscape components, environment using collage in one class period.

Brainstorm the Elements in a Landscape

Series of Drawings

Lesson Objective • TSW learn and understand how to produce a series of drawings connected by a common subject.

• TSW use contour line, pattern and oil pastels to create 4 or more drawings.

• TSW make connections between the elements in their own environment with the same elements from environments that are very different.

Batik

Lesson Objective • TSW go over their entire artwork with a tempera wash to emulate the look of a Batik surface.

• TSW batik all of their drawings.

Binding the Series of Drawings

Lesson Objective • TSW create a cover and a back to bind around their batik series.

• TSW bind their batik series using Japanese Stab binding as inspiration.

• TSW discuss their final product by making two comments about their book to the class.
