Others, such as fraxel, threadlift facelifts, bat-ear correction and eyelid hooding surgery generally involve three to five days of recovery. “Many treatments are comfortable, while others involve a topical or local anaesthetic,” Dr Buddy says. “We don’t use general anaesthetic for any of our treatments, and they’re all performed in our own clinics.” Myth 3: They’re only for the rich and famous Technology has made non-surgical cosmetic treatments simple and affordable. Prices start from $75 for microdermabrasion and IPL sessions, wrinkle injections range from $200 to $600, and laser treatments usually cost between $650 for fraxel and $1500 for thermage. Myth 4: You’ll end up looking like a different person If you’re hoping to reconstruct your face and emerge as an Angelina Jolie doppelganger, non-surgical cosmetic treatments are not for you. “You won’t look like a different person, you’ll look like a younger, fresher version of yourself,” Dr Buddy explains. “Non-surgical treatments slow down the ageing process, repair any imperfections and asymmetries and restore a youthful appearance.” Expert busts beauty myths

FAST FACTSWho: MD Cosmedical Solutions by Dr Buddy Paul Beaini MB. BS (NSW Uni). DCH. NON-SURGICAL cosmetic treatments have become enormously popular in recent years, as more people look to retain their youthful appearance, reverse the effects of ageing and correct imperfections, without going under the knife.

But urban myths and confusion with more invasive procedures continue to fuel some common misconceptions. Dr Buddy Paul Beaini, director of MD Cosmedical Solutions, busts the myths on non-surgical cosmetic treatments and outlines what they can offer people from all walks of life.

Myth 1: Cosmetic treatments are for older peoplePrevention is a major focus for non-surgical cosmetic treatments. “It’s about slowing down the ageing process – you’ll lessen the treatments required in future years if you start looking after yourself sooner,” Dr Buddy says.

Thermage treatments, for example, work on stimulating collagen production to tighten the skin, while fraxel laser targets fine lines and enlarged pores.

“Thread-lift facelifts keep the skin anchored and reduce the need for face-lifts later in life,” Dr Buddy adds.

Microdermabrasion, skin needling and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments also aim to keep the skin healthy and rejuvenated. Other treatments are used for corrective purposes –for children through to adults. Bat-ear correction,

eyelid hooding surgery and laser treatments for scars, burns, pigmentation and stretch marks are just some examples.

Myth 2: You’ll be recovering for weeksNon-surgical cosmetic treatments involve little downtime, and some can be over in a lunch break. “Things like wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, thermage, IPL and laser vein treatments involve absolutely no downtime – you can have it done and go back to work,” Dr Buddy says.

Others, such as fraxel, threadlift facelifts, bat-ear correction and eyelid hooding surgery generally involve three to five days of recovery.

“Many treatments are comfortable, while others involve a topical or local anaesthetic,” Dr Buddy says. “We don’t use general anaesthetic for any of our treatments, and they’re all performed in our own clinics.”

Myth 3: They’re only for the rich and famousTechnology has made non-surgical cosmetic treatments simple and affordable. Prices start from $75 for microdermabrasion and IPL sessions, wrinkle injections range from $200 to $600, and laser treatments usually cost between $650 for fraxel and $1500 for thermage. Unlike surgical facelifts and eye lifts, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars, threadlift facelifts and eyelid

hooding procedures at MD Cosmedical start from $2500.

Myth 4: You’ll end up looking like a different person If you’re hoping to reconstruct your face and emerge as an Angelina Jolie doppelganger, non-surgical cosmetic treatments are not for you. “You won’t looklike a different person, you’ll look like a younger, fresher version of yourself,” Dr Buddy explains. “Non-surgical treatments slow down the ageing process, repair any imperfections and asymmetries and restore a youthful appearance.”
