WELCOMEStarted in 2011 the Entrepreneurship School began with one idea: that

university professors aren’t teaching students how to become success-

ful entrepreneurs.

What’s missing?

There is not enough entrepreneurship education in Europe. At the same

time the most effective teachers and inspirers of entrepreneurship, are

actual entrepreneurs. University education is too theory based, with stu-

dents learning from professors who don’t engage with the real life situ-

ations needed for success. When speakers are invited, they tend to be

bankers, consultants and managers, with students wanting to do the

same.

Our aim is to change this.

Our mission has been to actively engage students in a hands-on and in-

teractive school where students can develop their entrepreneurial skills.

This is why we created the first school without professors.

Young people have loved this concept. Starting from one class with 25

participants on 2011, in 2014 we ran editions forover 300 people in both

Brussels and Honk Kong - and continue to grow.

One more thing: as of 2013 we also run a Junior Edition for 14 -18 year

olds.

ABOUT US

What is ThinkYoungThinkYoung is a think-tank concerned with young people.

Why do we exist?

Rather simple, we are the next generation.

We believe it is imperative to empower and provide a voice for young generations.

Through a variety of programs we aim to get our voices heard by decision-makers.

ThinkYoung currently boosts a network of more than 250.000 young individuals

involved in student organisations, and various corporate and institutional

connections in Europe and Asia.

We are now based in Brussels, Geneva and Hong Kong.

OUR FIELDS OF ACTION

EntrepreneurshipBecause young entrepreneurs are the key to innovation and growth, we are acting to

inspire young Europeans, in order to boost confidence levels and to encourage them

to pursue entrepreneurial dreams.

EducationThis is a particular focal point at ThinkYoung. We invest in young people’s education

with a vision to create better citizens for tomorrow. Our goal is to develop an infra-

structure where we offer highly beneficial learning programmes.

EnlargementWe want to show young Europeans diverse living conditions and the variety of cul-

tures within our continent. We think that mutual understanding is the first step in im-

proving integration and therefore European strength.

EU/AsiaWe aim to connect the European young generation with their Asian counterparts.

Through this, our goal is to extract the best practices in educational, entrepreneurial

and environmental cultures from the 2 continents, additionally highlighting similarities

and acquiring a greater degree of awareness.

Energy and EnvironmentWe want to ensure young Europeans have a say and allow them to raise their voice

on the matter. We want to improve a network across Europe, whilst sharing and en-

hancing knowledge on this topic.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Entrepreneurship Winter School Hong KongFollowing the success of the Entrepreneurship Summer Schools in

Brussels and Hong Kong, ThinkYoung and the University of Hong Kong

are presenting the 2nd edition of the Entrepreneurship Winter School

Hong Kong.

There are no professors or teachers, only real entrepreneurs who are

ready to share their ideas, experiences and knowledge.

In Hong Kong we welcome 35 participants from various cultural, creative

and occupational backgrounds, offering a true international experience.

The event will take place at the grounds of the University of Hong Kong.

In addition to our workshops, we will provide a trip to the Huawei HQ’s

in Shenzhen to witness an example and hotbed of innovation with en-

trepreneurial spirit.

10

Page 11: EWS HK 2015 SURVIVAL GUIDE

The EWS is unlike any other entrepre-

neurship learning program out there.

This is due to its unique methodology

which is driven by the idea that Entrepre-

neurship goes beyond opening a busi-

ness; it is a life which enables people to

turn their ideas into action.

We believe being a student of entrepre-

neurship means you should learn in a pro-

active and direct manner. This is why at

the EWS Hong Kong you will find no pro-

fessors, no books, and no lectures; only

entrepreneurs passing on real business

experience directly to you, giving invalu-

able knowledge you cannot find in books.

Active participationBy concentrating on concrete projects,

you can effectively work in teams to de-

velop the necessary skills to establish and

achieve goals, as well as gain confidence

through truly experiencing the satisfaction

of building upon your own ideas.

Each workshop output will be generated

by you, the participants, as it is your task

to interview the established entrepreneurs

to seek their views, principles, and (good)

practices, on a series of themes relating

to entrepreneurship. Each interview will

be designed and reviewed by teams of

nine who will be assigned their themes in

advance.

How it works: teams, speakers, themes.Overall, there are 34 participants that form

5 teams of 7 students.

There are 4 days of workshops.

Every day is divided into 2 sessions: morn-

ing and afternoon. In total 50 participants

will attend 8 workshop sessions.

What happens in the interview rooms? Each of the 5 teams in the room is given

20 minutes with the speaker to interview

him or her about one of the 4 themes.

Each time the speaker rotates, the inter-

view theme changes as well. This means,

that each team and each class gets to

cover every one of the 4 themes.

Themes of the School:1. Entrepreneurial idea

2. Market and media

3. Resourcing your Entreprise

4. Networking

Methodology of the School

11

Page 12: EWS HK 2015 SURVIVAL GUIDE

Create your Business IdeaWe want you to get a head start in entre-

preneurship by coming up with your own

business plan! In your teams, you will

have time to think of an innovative busi-

ness idea and be ready to present it at the

end of the week.

The speakers met throughout the week

will be present on the final day in order to

give you and your team feedback on your

business plan. The best plan will receive

a special prize!

It’s all about you!The invited speakers are here to act as

mentors, to inspire and to guide you.

However, the success of the workshops

relies much more on your own efforts.

The workshop output will be generated

entirely by you and your fellow partici-

pants. You learn to work in a team and to

collaborate with other entrepreneurs.

Remember, two heads are better than

one!

The workshop format gives you practi-

cal first-hand experience of organising

a learning event – real entrepreneurship

in action, not simulated business games.

The competitive element reflects the com-

petitive environment in which all entrepre-

neurs must survive.

JIM COKE /Founder of Hilmann ReinierJim is the classic “bootstrapping entrepreneur”. His achievements

are remarkable because he landed in Hong Kong with no contacts,

friends or family and battled his way through to Hong Kong’s larg-

est supermarket chain with a brand he developed from nothing.

This was all achieved without the help of consultants, advisors,

bank loans, local Chinese partners or foreign investors. Jim’s

view on entrepreneurship is unconventional and at the same time

practical and based almost entirely on the notion of “always doing

more with less”.

Hilmann Reinier now develops new brands coming into Asia and

has expanded its portfolio from coffee to beer, chocolates, tea,

rum, malt drinks and stouts. The Hong Kong Entrepreneur: From

Start-up to Supermarket in 18 months is Jim’s account of his jour-
