Everything You Need to Know To Run a Successful
KINGDOM COME Prayer & Worship Event “They lifted their voices in a wonderful harmony in prayer” (Acts 4:24)
The story so far … This guide has been designed to help you organise a KINGDOME COME Prayer and Worship event. It will get you started with ideas for your church, town or region, but then you can add your own. Please be as creative as you like. All we ask is that you combine prayers for the nation with praise, and that you are welcoming and gracious towards guests. Have a read through this guide and email [email protected] if you need further support. You’re also welcome to come along to one of the KC:LONDON events that we host at HTB, where you’ll be able to pick up great ideas, get prayer and get connected. God is calling us to pray. C’mon! Pete Greig 24-7 Prayer & Alpha
Throughout 2012 there was a giant Prayer Meeting; spanning England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland; filling every minute of every day of the entire year with a united chorus of prayer. As part of this year of prayer, churches all over the UK and Ireland hosted KINGDOM COME Prayer and Worship Events. While the year of prayer has come to end these events continue. The Alpha Course is already running in 7000 churches across the UK and Ireland but we know that God wants to do so much more. Strategies are important but ultimately we need God’s power! It’s ‘not by might, not by power but by my Spirit’ says the Lord Almighty’ (Zech.4:6).
Suggested Plan (Overview): Here’s a framework you could use for your KC:Event…

If your event is part of an Alpha Course interview a person who’s come to know Jesus through Alpha.

Notes Flexibility
This document is just a guide. We have given a detailed agenda as some people have requested that we give them as much detail as possible so as to get them started. Please feel free to tailor it to suit your local situation.
The songs and styles of prayer given are only suggestions but we do encourage you to include participatory worship and variety at your meeting.
Please change the agenda as you see fit especially taking into consideration any local issues or recent items in the news.
Not all groups will feel comfortable with raising their voices together in prayer so be sensitive but it’s worth encouraging! Visuals We suggest you may want to use a PowerPoint presentation/other visuals, and/or video clips/testimonies. ‘Style’ Key
50/50 – half the people worshipping whilst the other half pray aloud together then the sides are swapped around
RHS – right hand side
LHS – left hand side
100% – everyone praying aloud together
Small Groups – a group of 3 or 4 people, praying one at a time
Listening – allow a few minutes of silent prayer and then ask people to share what God has been saying to them
Focus on a group – Ask a particular group of people to move to the centre of the room to be prayed for by everyone else
For more detailed information please see ‘The Prayer Guide’ – available from alpha.org Testimony Slots There are two types of testimony you could use:
An amazing answer to prayer, or
A testimony about a recent Alpha experience
Should you be conducting a live interview (which is always best!), it’s important to meet with the interviewee(s) beforehand. Some of the most reluctant candidates give the most wonderful testimonies and for this reason, always be encouraging and reassuring. You might like to brief them as follows:
Everyone will be ‘on your side’ and will love to hear their story – however simple.
Imagine one of your non-Christian friends is in the audience, and they’re sitting at the back, so as to avoid religious jargon.
If you’ve had a bad experience in another denomination, please don’t name the church as that can appear very negative and offend people. We suggest that you simply say, ‘I had a religious upbringing.’
When describing the difference Jesus has made, try and give concrete examples (eg “when a driver cut me off yesterday, I didn’t lose my temper!”) and avoid sweeping generalisations.
Please don’t worry about having nothing to say – I can easily prompt you with another question if you need it. I’m responsible for the interview – you simply need to answer the questions.
Testimony interviews (during meeting)
“I would like to introduce you to .... who is going to share their story of answered prayer, or
“I would like to introduce you to one or two people who have done Alpha before… Firstly, I would like to introduce you to [name]” …. Launch into the testimonies.
Suggested questions for someone converted through Alpha:
Xxx time ago, would you have described yourself as a Christian or a churchgoer?
How did you come to be on Alpha?
What happened?
What difference has Jesus made to your life?

greater work’
