When a new construction or the renovation of an old construction results in two adjacent dwellings being separated by wall or floor, according to Building Regulations requirement sound insulation performance should be tested

Most commonly it is said sound testing or Acoustic testing .since July 2003 , sound testing has been an integral part of the building process in UK.

Two pairs of rooms are connected by a single wall are chosen as the test rooms.  These should all be living areas (bedrooms, drawing rooms, dining rooms etc.) rather than bathrooms or kitchens etc. 

For this scenario, the larger of the two rooms should be chosen as the source room and an airborne sound insulation test carried out.

In this way, two individual airborne acoustic tests are undertaken to generate the insulation performance results.

Similarly for two pairs of living areas, two types of sound insulation tests are carried out for each pair of rooms.

One airborne test is carried out. It tests insulation from lower to upper storeys. One impact test is also carried out which tests insulation from upper to lower storeys.

In this way, four different tests are carried out for sound testing of a standard floor.
