MESOPOTAMIAN SOCIETYThere are a few rich people in Mesopotamia, but most people are poor.Poor people are farmers and labourers. And there are a lot of slaves.
MESOPOTAMIAN RELIGION
Many Gods
• People believe that there are many gods, they are polytheists.
• Each city has its own gods.
• If the gods are unhappy, they punish people with disease and floods.
Priests
• Priests try to keep the gods happy.
• The king is the most powerful priest.
• The priests are also doctors. When someone is ill, they ask the gods for help.
Temples
• The temples are called ziggurats.
• The ziggurat is in the centre of the city.
• People leave food and wine at the ziggurats as offerings for the gods. The priests eat the food and drink the wine.
