NOTICES:
Welcome: Wewelcome Jenny back from her recent travels to China. We have heard a number of intrepid journey
stories and hope we get to hear a few more! We are very pleased it was a wonderful celebration of your sons
graduation from Beijing University. Its good to have you back Jenny!
Welcome: We welcome a brief return Meredith, Kent, Claudia & Owen Lewis from USA. Claudia and Owen will be
working in Kowhai.
Education Review Office: We have had notification that ERO will be visiting CTMS on the week of 13 Sept.
Word Witch: On Tuesday the Education Co-ordinator at the City & Sea Museum will take the students through
David Elliots working illustrations from Margaret Mahys collection of poetry in her book the Word Witch. They
will then compare these with the published copy. There will be poetry readings from the Word Witch book and
opportunities for the students to respond to these experiences through composing their own poetic writings. One
parent helper is needed for the morning session (Year 1-3 at 11am). Please contact Raewyn at the office if you are
available to help on the day.
Orchestra/Music Programme: This term we will be developing the childrens instrumental skills. We will be
holding recorder, ukulele and orchestra sessions on a Monday afternoon. The children need to bring their
instruments if they have these at home. We have a number of ukuleles available at school. Jonathan, our piano
teacher, will be tutoring the orchestra.Netball: OnTuesday we have a Year 4-5 Netball team from CTMS participating in the Yr4-5 Netball tournament
at Hataitai Netball courts. The tournament runs from 9:00am 2.30pm. The Year 7-8 Team play on Wednesday at
the same time.
Spanish: This term we begin an exciting new journey in our Spanish learning at CTMS. We have been invited by
the Ministry of Education to develop a sister-school relationship with a school in Mexico. Currently we are in the
process of establishing contact with the school which will allow for regular communication between our students
and the students of a Mexican school. In preparation, Spanish lessons will begin with building student knowledge of
the country, culture and people of Mexico. As the term progresses we will develop key language phrases to allow
written correspondence to begin with the Mexican students. We are very enthusiastic at the prospect of this new
development in Spanish at CTMS and see many exciting cultural and language learning opportunities for our
students. Many thanks to Raquel Direnzo, our Spanish Teacher, for developing a term plan to support our learningin this area.
Relieving: Anne-Marie Baun will be relieving for Suzanne this coming week.
Raffles: We still have a few remaining raffles from our Quiz Night. If you have not yet had an opportunity to
purchase tickets, these are available at the office. So be in the draw for a prize!
