2 AIRVENTURE 2018 Official Program & Exhibitors Guide

Welcome By David Young

AirVenture Australia warmly welcomes all recreational, sport, general aviators, visitors and guests to Cessnock and AirVenture Australia 2018. We sincerely hope that you enjoy all that this year’s event has to showcase. We are thrilled to be welcomed to Cessnock Airport and are so pleased that Cessnock City Council has made available it’s wonderful airport to the Australian aviation community to stage AirVenture Australia 2018. Airports are a vital piece of community infrastructure that are often misunderstood. I am sure the Cessnock community will welcome the opportunity to visit their Airport and gain a broader understanding

on what goes on at an Airport. The relocation to Cessnock marks a new chapter in the life of Australia’s fastest growing aviation spectacular. Our vision for the event has been accepted by industry and participants alike, and it’s through the staging of AirVenture Australia that we can all showcase what a wonderful industry aviation is, which only serves to grow it.

Aviation is often seen a mysterious activity and in the words of Leonardo De Vinci, ‘Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you will always long to return.’ I hope that guests leave AirVenture after experiencing the magic of aviation and will forever more be looking skyward.

The aviation community has a special and unspoken bond that exists within it, which is unparalleled in any other sport, hobby or industry pursuit. With this bond brings a special desire within every aviator to open their arms to those who have not yet joined the industry to share the passion and romance that is involved through taking to the skies and dancing amongst the clouds.

For guests contemplating a start in aviation, or simply furthering your interest in all things that fly, or perhaps even contemplating an investment in aviation, you will have found your Nirvana at Cessnock. If this is your first visit to an air show, whilst at AirVenture please ensure that you walk the flight line, talk to exhibitors and industry personnel and take the opportunity to meet and talk to the many aviators who will have flown from all corners of Australia, and in some cases the globe, to share in the magic of flight with you.

AirVenture will bring with it many economic benefits to the Hunter Valley region that will be long lasting and

recurring. Cessnock aerodrome is uniquely placed for aviators to visit well after the event has finished and experience all that the

Hunter Valley has to offer. An event like AirVenture provides the Hunter Valley community the opportunity to show case itself as a place for aviators to fly in to and visit. Well beyond the economic benefits the event will bring to Cessnock and the broader Hunter Valley region, AirVenture will also add to the history of the Cessnock Airport (formerly known as RAAF Station Pokolbin).

AirVenture Australia, through the financial support of our primary sponsors are proud to be able to bring you many of aviation’s leading brands, who are exhibiting their products and services. We are also immensely proud to being able to bring you a comprehensive program of seminars delivering you an opportunity to learn and enrich your aviation experience and knowledge. Please ensure that you take time to engage in all that AirVenture Australia has to offer you. Please be sure to join with me in thanking Recreational Aviation Australia, the Australian Parachute Federation, Bill Owen Insurance, OzRunways, CASA, QBE, PSB Insurance, Aviation Trader, Lockr, Skyfuel, Cessnock City Council and the team at Azimuth Partners for the financial and other contributions they have provided in bringing this great event to you. Also, do not forget to take time to recognize the many volunteers required to deliver an event of this nature. The countless hours, all offered tirelessly, would be almost impossible to quantify.

The success of AirVenture is now very much in your hands. So I now invite you to pull out your flying machine and WAC, slap on your hat and some sunscreen and get amongst all that AirVenture has to offer and above all, have a safe and enjoyable experience.

“Walking The Flight Line” SAFETY INFORMATION

• Never touch a parked aircraft, especially the propeller, which should be considered “live”. This means it may start just by moving it slightly!

• Aircraft are strongly constructed yet certain aspects of them can be quite delicate. Pushing or pulling on parts of an aircraft can damage them and place lives at risk.

• When walking around parked aircraft look out for tie down ropes and stakes which present a trip hazard.

• Watch out for edges of wings and ailerons as they are often at head height and leave a nasty bruise or cut if you head butt them inadvertently.

• If you have questions, find a pilot to ask, they love talking about their aircraft.

LOOKING AT AIRCRAFT IS FUN & ENJOYABLE, BUT WE NEED TO

Unique Experiences, Valuable Relationships By Tony Shaw

What we see and experience at AirVenture Australia 2018 is the result of countless hours of time devoted to planning and organisation by a small and dedicated group of aviation professionals. If you’re wondering what it takes to present an event as significant as this, ask one of the team, that’s if they’re still on their feet! Some might consider AirVenture Australia 2018 a leap of faith, but many would understand its relevance and potential and see the justification in investing valuable time in creating momentum and an effective template for the future.

So what does the event bring to the table? Certainly there will be obvious

economic benefits. Perhaps as important though, are the opportunities it creates for people from all walks of life to share aviation experiences.

You don’t need to be deeply immersed in aviation to feel its influence and to share what is great about flying.

One of the great things about events like AirVenture is the camaraderie they create. When large groups of like-minded people come together to share common ground, long term friendships are created and re-visited, many a story is told and re-told. Aviators are great people, always prepared to have a chat, always prepared to offload their experience or give recommendations and advice.

If you are deeply immersed in aviation there’s plenty for you too. Many of the aviation industry’s leading brands are exhibiting their products and services at AirVenture and there is a comprehensive program of seminars and workshops that will deliver the

opportunity to learn, discuss issues and receive expert advice. You will see in

the following pages details of the event’s programs (both on ground and airborne) and a list of key exhibitors. Please take the time to engage

and become part of the event and all that it has to offer. You might ask what about the future? Well that’s very much in your hands.

AirVenture is one of very few remaining regional events with the potential to become nationally significant. It has the opportunity to grow into something truly great (a mini Oshkosh perhaps?). The event organisers have done an amazing job preparing and presenting a compelling program of activities and displays. Remember they are almost all volunteers and ask nothing more in return than to hear from you that what they have created was worthwhile. If business was done, valuable things were learned, friendships were established or re-kindled and enjoyment was felt, they will know that their faith and belief in the event was well placed.
